Pink Pony

Description

In the days when downtown Scottsdale was truly still "the West's most western town," this venerable venue was THE place to gather. For many, it still is. The dining room is cowboy, but the bar is purely a sports shrine. Baseball's Cactus League games are played at the nearby Scottsdale Stadium and both players and fans can be found drinking and dining. Steaks and prime ribs hit home runs here. All of your classic American favorites can be found on the menu.

This place was great. Our waiter offered excellent advice, and he knew his menu perfectly. Service was excellent all around. The scallops are fantastic! The decor is interesting, though kitchy. A most enjoyable evening.

A great retro experience
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/20/09
Before going, I read the other reviews to get an idea of what to expect. Walking in was like stepping into the past - a high end supper club from maybe the 50's. The linens were clean and crisp. The service could not have been more attentive. My husband and I shared the prime rib (enormous!) and we agreed, we had never seen such a luscious and large piece of meat. I've never been a fan of prime rib, but this definitely changed my vote - I'll get it again! The baked potato WAS actually baked ... not sitting on some steam table like most. Even sharing (they do charge for an extra plate if needed - I didn't) we did not have room for dessert. Note: they do automatically add the tip to the bill, but our waitress made sure that we knew that beforehand. By the way, we're in our 50's and the experience reminded us of places our parents might have gone to that were for special occasions only. Minor dislike: the house steak sauce was like ketchup, in my opinion.

The worst meal I have ever had. The biscuits were something they must have picked up at the grocery store and heated up in the micro. The garlic bread was just as bad. I've bought better garlic bread in the freezer section of the grocery store. It doesn't appear either were made in house. They should have been considering the price you pay for your meal. We had the petit filet and salmon. Both were horrible quality. Nothing had any flavor. We didn't finish our meal. OVERPRICED. Will never go here again.

When I walked into the Pink Pony, it seemed like a time warp back 40-50 years! Lounge singer, antique lamps, high-back upholstered seats. But there was something very cool about the place. The baseball memorabilia was fantastic. When I saw the menu I was a bit surprised at the prices. The waitress we had was very polite and took good care of us. Wish I could remember her name, though, to give her credit. I ordered the shrimp and crab fettucini. It was quite a lot and very delicious. Nobody left hungry and we got our money's worth. The lounge singer fit the restaurant perfectly! Not a place I would go to every time I visit (prices), but have recommended it to friends who plan on traveling to the Phoenix area.

I had high expectations when I came here only to be let down. The steak was marginal at best. The fillet was overdone, the rib eye was thin and salty, and the swordfish was rubbery. Overall this restaurant was overpriced and nothing more than Denny's with a baseball ambience. The only saving grace of this overrated restaurant was the pink pony matches on the way out. Do yourself a favor and eat at Bandera's right next door.

Worst steak I've ever had. Burned like charcoal. Wait staff was good. I'll never go back...

Silly Name, Great Experience
By Locksmith Charley, 9/17/07
Fair prices, friendly and very ATTENTIVE staff provided a tasty meal with good portions in a timely manner. Our out of town guest saw it while driving around town and we, never having heard of it before, said "OK, lets go!" We couldn't have had a better outing if we had planned something in advance. **PLEASE NOTE** I am frequently difficult to please. It is rare for me not to find SOMETHING to complain about....

Holy Baseball!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/22/07
The Pink Pony is one of the few places in Scottsdale where you can actually eat a great steak for a reasonable price and get a drink to match. The wine list is decent, the house salad dressing with bleu cheese crumbles is top die for. The baseball pictures and bats are a reminder of how life used to be!! The best thing about the Pink Pony though...... The waitresses (no waiters). They are kind, courteous and very down to earth. sk for Diana, Christina or Loyanne(sp)? You will not be disappointed. They are all very nice and kind... I have been there several times!!!

We go every year!
By Annette, 3/5/07
The atmosphere is great, the food is great, the drinks are wonderful. Steve the singer is a character. However, I feel the resteraunt needs remodeling, such as fresh paint, new floors, updated bathroom facilities. I'm not saying to change the atmosphere or the sports pictures, the place just a major overhaul in cleaning.
