Taylors Chowder House
Since 1980, David Taylor has been serving up sensational East Coast-style seafood to eager West Valley diners. In 1985, he opened this eatery specializing in fresh fish from the eastern seaboard including whole-bellied clams from Boston and oysters from Baltimore. The eatery is decorated with a New England seaport theme. Some of the featured items include cod, clams, scallops, catfish, oysters, salmon, walleye; you name it and they probably have it either on the menu, or on their daily special board.
I have been going to Taylors Chowder House for almost 25 years. It is always great from the Idaho brook trout to the Mexican blues stuffed with crab you can not beat this place, We are doing a birthday party there tonight and all of us can hardly wait. I love this place and the help is so friendly. They make you feel very welcomed. Try it.
I'm from Maryland and let me tell you, this place is as close to, if not better than Abner's down in North Beach, MD for having the best, freshest seafood around. I had a cup of Manhattan chowder and the clams were plump and juicy - also had a jumbo shrimp cocktail (awesome), and an oyster Po Boy which was so big I had to take 1/2 home. This is the best East Coast style seafood restaurant in Phoenix - bar none !
My husband and I went to Taylor's Chowder House last night for the first time and we were very disappointed. When we walked in the door of the restaurant I was almost sent right back out the door due to the wicked fishy smell in the restaurant....I know it is a seafood restaurant but fresh fish should not have that type of smell. I think this restaurant is like 20 years old....it shows. I am not sure if they have cleaned the restroom in the 20 years of operation. The tables were dirty and the booth seats were falling apart. My dish was the Cod special which was pretty nice but the rice pilaf was under cooked and not so great. My husband had the Cajun snapper which was not good. It was very fishy and just kind of blah. Dessert and service were ok. The meals were way over priced for what you received. I would not waste my time by trying this restaurant. It you want seafood and live in the valley just go tot the Fish Market! You will pay the same at the Fish Market and have a clean, professional restaurant with killer food.
