The Keg Steakhouse & Bar is just another fine example of an incredibly average restaurant in Phoenix. It’s not like the food was bad, or the service was lacking. Frankly everything was spectacularly average. I really tried to like the Keg, but just found it almost impossible. This place was just like a billion other places. The bar was average, the service was average, the steak was average, the atmosphere was average. I felt like Clark Kent was going to come stumbling around the corner any minute bump into my table mumble some kind of apology, and disappear into the kitchen.
If you own a Brinkman, just stay home and grill it yourself. Without a doubt you will be able to produce the same results. Not to mention save about fifty bucks in the process.
While I say this tongue and cheek,
If average food is what you seek.
A million places I can recommend,
But to the Keg I will definitely send.
Only if you keep your expectations low,
This is the place you will want to go.
We have been going to this restaurant since it opened and have always enjoyed it. However, after our last two visits we will not be returning. Horrible service and the food has really gone downhill. Our last visit we waited for over 40 minutes for our food and it cam out cold and was not prepared as ordered. We won't be back.
tonight we are going to the Keg at Tatum to celebrate my wife's 70th birthday. Previously we have gone there when they had their lobster fests. I will write my full review after we have been there. In the past the food and service was really GOOD. I will expect no less tonight. The reviews I see written are a mixed bag. and the more recent not as good as the earlier ones....I expect to change that.
Other comments must be from owners/employees pumping the restaurant. Although, I'll say the service was better than a lot of other establishments, the food was less than impressive. French onion soup was horrible. Definitely came from a can. The Keg Sized prime rib was dry and the only flavor was the overpowering spices. Cocktails were very good made with fresh squeezed fruit juices. Lucky I didn't leave anything behind so that I'll never have to go back. Dinner for two was $98 w/o tip.
I can't say enough about how happy my family has been with our dining experiences at the Keg. Their steaks are every bit as good as those of a top tier steakhouse like Mortons or Ruth Chris, but the cost is far less. In fact, we think it's affordable enough to do once a month or so. If you go, pay attention to the specials menu, I've tried many of their regularly rotating selections and I've never been disappointed. And if you like wine, make sure you order a Keg size glass! It's another great value. I've heard a few others complain that the service is slow, but I've never had that problem.
One more tip, if you get on their mailing list, on your birthday you will get a coupon in the mail for a free steak and lobster dinner that's good for the month. We've signed up everyone in the house. The Keg gets my highest possible recommendation!
