Thought I would update and correct the reviews. Don Jose was a wonderful neighborhood restaurant. I was raised eating this food as my father was good friends with the owner and so we enjoyed the fantastic, homestyle food weekly! My favorites were the shredded beef tacos and the sour cream enchiladas. I have cravings for the taco sauce and the cheese crisps all of the time but sadly, last week when I drove over to the restaurant, it has a closed sign up and is empty. I can only surmise that something happened to him and the family had decided not to keep running it without him. Opened since about 1956, just before I was born, I can say that I teethed on the chips! I called another restaurant by the same name in Surprise, Arizona, out on west Bell and was rudely told that his was the only Don Jose in the nation and he had the rights to the name. Sorry, but the original on Thomas is the one and only Don Jose I will ever recognize and will refuse to go to any bad imitation of the restaurant. If anyone else knows what happened to this wonderful restaurant, please, please, post the information as I really miss it!
