Description

Ramon and Maria Cardenas started in the restaurant business over forty years ago. Ramon was born in San Luis Potosi. Maria, born in Chihuahua, Mexico, passed away in 2002. Together, they shared a passion for Mexican cuisine, and created recipes and dishes proudly served as delicious expressions of their cultural background. The Red Iguana restaurant opened its doors in 1985 to resounding applause and numerous local and national awards. The Cardenas family has had the pleasure of serving its dedicated patrons in the Salt Lake Valley since 1965 with the Casa Grande and Red Iguana restaurants. Ramon and Maria created unique yet traditional Mexican recipes, now passed on to the Cardenas children who are proudly continuing the family tradition.Serving the Salt Lake Valley all these years has been an honor and we are very grateful to all our loyal patrons. Thank you,The Cardenas family

Local owned place. They do so well they now have 3 locations and that is just great. Now you do not have to wait forever to get in. The food speaks for its self for sure. Good prices. I gave 4 star not 5 because the service can be hit and miss. I have stood in the door way to get seated before with all kinds of staff just staring at me. Other than that good food decently worth trying.

This is as good as southern California mexican food. I'm sure its either the best, or second best mexican food I have ever had

Spectacular! First meal I ate there was one of the two best I have ever eaten. You can tell when food is made with love! Just look at the salsa for the chips - you can actually SEE at least 7-8 ingredients in it. The mole negro, verde and poblano are the real iguana specialties. Fantastic! I try not to go there too often as it is still such a treat when I get to go. If you love flavorful mexican, you cannot do any better.

The noisy atmosphere is part of the experience. There is often a wait at this popular spot. Be ready for authentic Aztec and Mayan recipes - not Tex-Mex! Loved their mole! Especially the hot amarilla kind. If you don't like that kind of food or know what mole is, you may not like it so much. We don't get to SLC very often but when we do we make it a point to go there and have never been disappointed

We heard this place was excellent so we went...but the place was overcrowded, food wasn't very good, and I had a nasty black hair in my food!! The only good thing was their salsa.

Get there early to grab a table because this place fills up fast!! Its right down the road from my work so I eat here probably once per month and I love it! I am an enchilada lover but I wasn't too impressed by their sauce so I would stick to anything with Mole sauce!!! It is bomb!!!

Great mole. Get the red iguana plate. Seating is tight and noisy, but the food is great.

ok no joke! We were waiting to order and saw a Cockroach by the door so we left. We come here all the time and the food is really good but the bug thing grossed us out!

Don't be scared, come to the RI!
You are completely lame if you eat at La Frontera! Why deny yourself the best Mexican in Utah? Don't be afraid, the Westside has loads to offer!
