Salt Lake Roasting Company (The)
Located on the outskirts of downtown Salt Lake City, the Salt Lake Roasting Company serves up hot brews and fresh baked goods to a mixed clientele. The two-storey cafe boasts a casual decor. Guests sip lattes indoors at wooden tables and the bar or in the warm weather, outside, on the tree-sheltered patio. Late hours and patio seating make this a popular spot for a post dinner coffee.
Best coffee I've had in the mountain west. Spacious, welcoming, informal atmosphere. Good food, terrific pastry -- lots of options.
Lovely place to hang out during the day; even better, bring a date there after a show.
Definitely the best soy latte in town. I believe this shop carries the best variety and freshest roasts in town. My mother, who lives in California even has us get her coffee here and send it out to her. And beyond the coffee is the out of this world desserts and the great atmosphere. You must try the Roasting Company!
Friendly place. Quite good light meals and yummy cakes at reasonable prices. Free wi-fi. Reasonably good ambiance. Great place for non-formal business meeting or getting work done. Although I probably wouldn't have made it through graduate school without the Roasting Company as a work place, I don't really like the coffee very much. Some people rave about it, but I find their coffee roast bitter and not very good. Decide for yourself.
Due to a lack of institutional memory, you may not know that before the Salt Lake Roasting Co., the best coffee available in Utah was Folgers. It was the late 70s when the Roasting Co. introduced gourmet coffee to Utah. And it's still the best. The guy who runs the place is a genuine coffee nerd, who conducts coffee tasting experiments in the store with the zeal of a kid with a new chemistry set. Those who value tradition, as well as good coffee, should forego the also-rans and patronize the oldest and the best.
I regret that I didn't visit Salt Lake Roasting Company more often when I lived in SLC. They do the best espresso and straight latte I've ever tasted, certainly the best of the coffee houses I've tried in Salt Lake. And their menu of sandwiches, quiches, and sweets is just astoundingly good.
The SLC Roasting Company is like an adventure in coffee. The building itself holds the bean roasting equipment, so you can check out the the process from beginning to the tasty end. The Roasting Co also boasts a fantastic chef that creates all sorts of goodies and dinners to completment the fresh coffee.
