Ichiban's menu is very user friendly to help, even the uninitiated navigate the choices. The chef's hand rolls are a specialty, featuring unusual and delicious combinations of fish, vegetables and spices. Of course there is a full kitchen preparing a variety of traditional Japanese fare. If sushi is not your favorite, try the teriyaki chicken, seafood soba , or any one of the light and delicious tempura dishes. Alcohol is available with meals.
Ichiban is a great sushi place in downtown slc. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday are half off the whole night. Service is great and the atmosphere is very chill. Drinks are great too. The chefs are not boys they are men and do know what they are doing. Its rated the best sushi in SLC!
Ichiban has some truly phenomenal dishes. Their tempura-fried rolls are fantastic; my personal favorites include the X-96 Roll and the Sandra's Silverlake Roll. However, for my money, it doesn't get any better than their Hamachi Kama appetizer. It's not always available, so cross your fingers.
Since an obvious change in ownership, Ichiban has gone downhill fast. Anyone familiar with their previous quality and service level should stay away and just keep a fond memory alive. After our recent visit, we have decided as a group to never go back. We were forced to wait well over an hour to be seated. A party of 5 is not that hard to accommodate. We were offered edemame on the house for our wait, but it never happened. The rolls were poorly made and all fell apart. They've opted for artsy dishes which lack flavor, as opposed to their traditional style Japanese entrees. On top of all this, we were forced to wait a ridiculously long time for even our check. At least 25-30 minutes after our dessert was served and our waiter was NOWHERE to be found. This used to be a great place, but save your time and go elsewhere at this point unless you are a trendy youth and your buddy works there. That seemed like 85% of the crowd, and possibly why 20-30 people were seated before us.
No longer Ichiban....
This is my favorite sushi joint in Utah. Granted the prices are not that low, the food is always amazing. For beginners into sushi their Funky Charlie is excellent. Tuna in a flash fried sushi roll drizzled with a sauce that is to die for. The Caterpillar, Mars, Spider, and Death rolls are all excellent as well. Every time I go I always start with an order of gyoza. The entrees they serve are excellent as well. If you are a sake fan the selection is wide and varies from cold to hot, and domestic to foreign.
They do not take reservations, so if you have a large group I would just call them to warn them and send someone early.
Stopped on our way from west coast to east side. We were so incredibly hungry we didn't think a sushi joint could possibly fill us up. We've never been happier to be wrong. We were tired from driving all day and this was JUST the place to chill out and GORGE ourselves on the chicken and tofu teryaki, of which by the way both are EXCELLENT! But not as good as our sushi appetizer that tasted like absolute HEAVEN! It was tuna with avacado + cucumbers, wrapped in rice then wrapped in salmon, then deep fried (tempura fried) to perfection. YUUMMM! If we ever go through Salt Lake again we'll definitely have to come back for seconds!
The food looks and taste amazing! The rooms are great for parties or for privacey! The servers are very knowlegeable about the fish and not to mention they have a very good looking staff (bonus)! You do have to drop a little bit more money but I alway feel like I am paying for what I am getting...quality! Oh and they have house special dessert's that are to die for!
