Good Service, Average Food
I went to The Other Place restaruant Saturday afternoon with my mom. It was okay. We wanted to go to Sakura Sushi, but they are closed till 5:30 pm on Saturdays! We tried Kyoto, but it was too busy - thanks goodness. I did not want to eat there
My picked The Other Place as we drove by on 300 S. and about 500 East in Salt Lake City.
It was okay. The service was great. Our server was helpful in describing some of their Greek dishes to me. She even pronounced them with a proper Greek accent. Afraid to try something too exotic, I settled on a gyro with fries.
My gyro was average. It seemed to made of the same pressed meat you find at every Greek restaraunt in Utah. I forgot to ask for no onions. So, I spent a few minutes picking them off - and there were a lot. My fries were under cooked. Even the pita bread seemed like it needed a few more minutes in the oven.
Our dolmathes (ground beef and rice, I think, wrapped in grape leaves) were pretty good. The best part of the lunch were my mom's hash browns. They were awesome - the best I've had in a long, long time. Definitely the highlight of the meal. I wished I'd ordered breakfast like my mom.
The Other Place is not a bad place to eat. It was clean, the people were very friendly, and it was not a bad bill. But, it was not great, and it is unlikely I'll return. One major disadvantage is that this particular location is downtown - way too far into Salt Lake City for my liking.
