Jimmy's an American Restaurant & Bar, Aspen

Cache-Cache, Campo di Fiori, & Jimmy's are separately owned but share a courtyard. Jimmy's is one story above the others & so overlooks both that courtyard as well as Smuggler Mountain. I love the ambiance...homey & stylish at the same time. Wheat-colored stucco walls with bead board wainscoating, arts & crafts-like back-lit photos of various sports that appear to be lighting fixtures, imaginatively designed track lighting, different for each area, outdoor balcony dining as well as indoor. The menu is strictly American & instead of bread, a plate of soft pretzel sticks with mustard is served. I started with a tomato, mozzarella, arugula salad served with a reduction of balsamic vinegar. The tomatoes weren't in the greatest shape & I suspect they had spent time in the refrigerator when they shouldn't have. My entree was the appetizer sized (6 oz.) crab cake. It was wonderful, certainly filling & I was glad I hadn't ordered the entree of 2, 6 oz. cakes. The price by the way is $30 for the two if eaten in the regular dining room. If eaten in the bar, $20. The bar menu is almost the same as the dining room menu & next time we'll give that a try. Although you can make a reservation for the dining room, you can't for the bar. My husband ordered a delicious piece of Hawaiian swordfish that was topped with a mango, pineapple salsa & rested on coconut rice. Dessert was a large pottery cookie jar filled with 6 large cookies: 3 milk chocolate chip & 3 cinnamon oatmeal raisin. The cookies were still hot & it was to be accompanied by glasses of milk which we skipped, opting for coffee. What a terrific presentation that was! We now have snacks for the next few days. Jimmy's deserves a repeat visit. The service was friendly & efficient.

Let's start on a good note. This place is on the 2nd floor of a building and has a nice outside deck. Although, there are others that offer views of Ajax Mountain. Now, on to the reality that is Jimmy's. Their staff is snotty, ill prepared and poorly trained. Asking for a simple substitution of mac & cheese vs. mashed potatoes turned into high drama for the waiter and the hostess.....not how you want to spend 2 seconds of your vacation. The food was totally bland and overpriced. It was just not worth the time or money (the mac & cheese wound up being an extra $17).

Fret not fellow travelers, for the place of grace is Jimmy's. No one ever called me a poet so I will just say I am not one, but if you are I would love to hear how you would describe this place call Jimmy's. From top to bottom this place has it. The waiting staff is excellent and provides a great atmosphere for all. If your laid back, they have the most relaxing environment and I hear the upper deck is nice in the summer. If you are there to party Jimmy's has a crucial object called a bar that most alcohol ambitionists would say puts a glaze over the eye. If you are a tight wad, don't worry, they have a childrens menu I think. Everything in this place is astounding and I ask you to heed advice of the many and at least give them a shot to make your dream dining experience come true.

With so many favorite restaurants in Aspen, it is hard to branch out and try new things. Our food calendar opened up a bit this trip with the closing of Mother Lode and La Cocina. I am very glad we tried Jimmy's. The crab cakes were just the way I like them: all crab, no filler. The red and yellow tomato salad was good, but not awesome. The filet was cooked to perfection and the red trout was also outstanding. The vibe in the restaurant was lively, but not too loud. By the time we left at around 10pm, the bar was packed with people, making it a little annoying to push through on the way to the exit. Overall, the experience was great and Jimmy’s has earned a spot on our short list of Aspen favorites.

We've met friends at Jimmy's and had plenty of room at the table. Food varies from excellent to average therefore the very good overall rating. Good atmosphere, not too glitzy. Friendly staff and good service.

Great food, greats service, laid back atmosphere and there is a really cozy bar attached if you care for lighter dining while watching the game.

Jimmys Restaurant is a great place to eat, the food is the best the service is brilliant and the Volcano dessert is the best dessert i have ever had!! Bad point would can be crowded but hey that really isn't bad it shows how popular the place is!!

From the moment you walk in, there is a buzz going on. Lively, fun, great location. Jimmy the owner is a blast and wants to make sure you have a positive experience. Friday nights are great "blues" nights. Don't miss it! The food is excellent and the wine list can be put side by side w/ the best of places. If you favor tequila... this is the only place in town.

My husband and I had a great evening at Jimmy's. We were seated outside on their rooftop patio on a gorgeous summer evening without a reservation, which made me very happy right off the bat. Our server was a very pleasant young man who did a great marketing job on different items on the menu. I had a great meatloaf, something I wouldn't normally order at a nice restaurant; my husband had a delicious rotisserie chicken. Their wine list was extensive and had many items by the glass. Their menu is mostly classic American dishes; steaks, chops, seafood and appetizers. The prices are in line with the quality and the Aspen location - not cheap but not outrageous. We enjoyed our meal and would return again.
