Voted #1 in Colorado by Zagat Survey, Sweet Basil has been a must for travelers and locals alike since 1977. The cuisine is creative contemporary American utilizing many cultural influences from around the world. Located in the heart of Vail Village, the restaurant blends fine dining with a captivating "bistro-like" energy.
Had lunch on 5/24/07. Town streets all torn up in the off-season, but fought our way thru for an excellent lunch. The fries with cheese are great, the pasta dishes are good, the desserts are worth a separate trip. $20/person will get you a good lunch without the drinks.
We ate at Sweet Basil twice during our recent trip to Vail- Friday evening dinner and Sunday Brunch. Our experience was the best. The food was excellent in every way, the bartender makes a great martini, and the rest of the staff was professional and very friendly. We didn't see a trace of the snobbery that the other reviewer saw, in fact just the opposite. On our way out, virtually everyone, waiter, bartender, hostess, busboy, wished us well and asked if we had a nice time. On our second trip we were recognized and greeted like old friends. The food was not only delicious, but memorable. It was the highlight of our entire vacation and we will certainly be back.
We visit Vail every year and for the last 6 have eaten at Sweet Basil. We expected the best and almost got it.
The restaurant has been remodeled and looks great. The bar in particular. We very much liked the friendlly manager. We did not care for the unfriendly bartender. Don't recall this kind of snobbery at our other visits. The food was wonderful, particularly the lamb chops. Others in our party found their entree bland. The service was machine like but efficient. The wines and dessert were good too. We would come back but it has fallen to number 3 in our list of favorites in Vail.
