Matsuhisa - Aspen, Aspen

I'm amazed to see a couple negative reviews for this place! It is without a doubt one of the top 5 sushi restaurants in the country. I've eaten sushi around the world, and this is right up there. I live in Aspen and I can tell you it's not easy to find consistently good meals - some of the top places have their off nights - but I have never had a less than excellent meal here! (Perhaps that's why during peak season you have to call a month in advance for a booking....year after year?)

Matsuhisa has a cutting edge menu that they are famous for and they are excellent at it. However, it is not nearly the best that I have ever had in Japanese fusion. That crown belongs to master chef Bun Lai and his hole in the wall eccentric restaurant Miya's Sushi of New Haven, Connecticut. Matsuhisa is excellent but Miya's is the last place you will ever want to eat.

The food, service, ambiance and crowd were unbelievable. We went 2 nights out of 5 and wish we went more. Must haves are the yellow tail jalepeno sashimi, the blackened cod, the sashimi salad, bento box and listen to your waiter(s)... they know what they are doing. Definitely go!

It was a horrible time. I went there and it was defly loud and the service was SLOW. I mean this was a wednesday night and it was a long wait. The food was ok, but i not as good as people said and i think you should just find a smaller, less expensive place to go.
