The Nickel, Crested Butte's oldest saloon and great steak house, has been hosting visitors and locals alike under the current ownership since 1981. Whether you are visiting the mountains for the first time or returning, the Nickel is a Crested Butte tradition that must not be missed. Dating prior to 1929, our bar and building will take you back to the early mining era of the Rocky Mountains. We pride ourselves in offering consistent, high quality food and drink prepared and served by our experienced, friendly staff. We feature a wide variety of U.S.D.A. Prime graded steaks, seafood, lamb, pork, lobster, crab, salads, sandwiches, as well as our famous prime rib.
Me and my wife had dinner at the Wooden Nickle 8 24 11 it was OUTSTANDING! the waitress was very helpful explaining the menu everything was what she said it would be. I have to say it ranks as one of the best meals i have ever had. yea it was expensive but not out of line for a location like CrestedButte if your looking for a walmart priced burger in a location like this you may be a Donkey.
We have always eaten at the Wooden Nickel when visiting Creste Butte, but after our meal last week, we will not be going there again. My wife and I split an Elk burger ($14 on the menu) but we were not told about the split fee of $3 and $7 for the cheese and mushrooms, so the total cost for one hamburger was over $24. With a glass of wine $9, our tab came to $35. Service was average but this restaurant is not worth what we paid. Too many other great options in the area so you would be better off looking elsewhere.
