Great pizza and salads! If you like wood oven pizza, then this is your place. However, there's not a great deal of seating and there's usually a wait to be seated. It's worth it, though. You order and pay for your meal before you are seated, so study the menu beforehand!
Took a day trip up to Salida *just* to go to Amica's. When you walk in there is a menu on the wall and you are expected to know what you want before you are seated, something I am not used to. Reminded me of a New York deli I went to once.
They had an impressive beer list. We ordered some pizzas and Caesar salads and of course beer!
The Caesar salads at Amica's are the absolute best I ave ever had, no lie. They top them with real anchovy, you don't just taste it in the dressing. The pizzas were good, but the salads outshined the pizza something fierce.
The beer was all delicious. Not one beer from the sampler was flat, infected, or nasty in any way, they were all tasty.
We ordered a few growlers to go and here's where my review goes downhill, the beer didn't last in the fridge, it went flat rather quickly in comparison to Mc Clellans which lasts a week in our fridge and tastes fresh from the tap.
My biggest beef with Amica's is the bums rush.
I did not like the rushed feeling we got AT ALL. We drove quite a ways to visit and we were handed the check and the door hit us in the rear before we even ate a bite. I do not like that at all. We were given our check three different times before we were ready for it and in the end Amica's lost out money in the rush to get us out. After reviewing my receipt in the car later they charged us for all of our beer beer and a tiramisu (which I wanted but we were chased out!).
Advice for Amica's: take a chill pill and stop pushing the check until we ask for it. Good beer, but it doesn't keep.
A nice change of pace, really good food and even better beverage. Salads, calzones and pizzas are darn good. The brew choice is good as well. Atmosphere is pretty good, considering it's the old Salida morgue. Only drawback is the wait during the weekends and all summer long-always a line and be ready to wait for a table.
We were in town for some fall color driving, and had dinner at Amicas. It used to be called Il Vicino, but is now called Amicas.
Great pizza, cooked in a large wood stove type oven. It is thin crust pizza, with not so much cheese that it overpowers the taste. Lots of different pizza types, not just pepperoni or sausage.
They also make a bunch of microbrew beers. Everything from a light Wheat to a very dark Porter. Again, you can see the brewing system right there.
Their service scheme is a little different, you order at the counter, then get a number and sit down. They bring the beer right away!
