Sweeney's Fine Dining, Durango

My girlfriend and I recently ate at Sweeney's and the food was awful. We each ordered the New York strip and priced at $32 and $40 each (based on size), we expected good quality steaks. Unfortunately, the meat was not very good quality. It was tough and lacked flavor. Worst of all, it was not properly cooked. My girlfriend ordered her's medium rare and it came out medium. I ordered mine medium and it came out very rare. The side dishes were mediocre, salad not crisp. At best this meal was worthey of Denny's prices not the $90.00 that we paid. The wait staff was excellent, but we will never return for another meal at Sweeney's. I would advise anyone to reconsider eating here at the prices they charge and thy quality of food you recieve.

My wife and I have been regular customers at Sweeney's for many years. I simply cannot find better prime rib and the salad (especially when mixing bleu cheese and caesar dressing) is the best. Another thing that is special about this restaurant is the background it presents when taking pictures of friends and family. It is beautiful and extremely unusual. We always look forward to going to Sweeney's.

Terry Sweeney, a dear friend, created a wondrous beauty overlooking the Animas Valley in beautiful Durango,Co. He put actual blood,sweat, and tears into building this unbelievable structure, and refining his menu, he was always on site to stroll amoung his diners and make sure everything was just right. I was told that Terry passed peacefully away from his beloved Durango, but his memory and his creation remains for generations to come to enjoy. Sweeney’s Grubsteak has the most unique atmosphere of all the restaurants in Durango (and possibly the Four Corners area). All the walls and ceilings are made from rough-cut barn wood, a tree is in the middle of the bar, and the artwork/decorations are a collection compiled by Terry Sweeney which includes a beautiful turquoise jewelry collection. I have enjoyed many fabulous dinners and evenings there, whether was alone or with company. In addition to the wonderful dinner menu, Lounge Happy Hour Specials have been introduced (one day is great BBQ beef ribs!) and a to-die-for Sunday Brunch Menu has been added. The Sunday Brunch menu is great for late sleepers since it is served until 3:30 and is incredibly affordable (large $6 - $12 entrees). I highly recommend Sweeney’s to everyone - they are even happy to accommodate children!

I've been going to Sweeney's for over twenty years. It has always been a little pricy but well worth it. Recently I was in the Durango area and made a special trip to Sweeney's to relive the past, but unfortunately it has been placed under new management. Their new and improved menu left much to be desired. It saddens me to see a business that had a tried and true recipe for success for three and a half decades ruined by a transient notion. Unfortunately I will not be back.

I love Sweeney's. It has such a unique atmosphere and a wonderful menu full of different food. It is sure to please even the picky eater!

My family really liked Sweeneys. The food and service was excellent. The place is a really different and not a typical cookie cutter chain restaurant. I would go there again for sure!

Great place to eat when you are in town. Prime rib and steaks are great. The restraunt is a funky and cool one of a kind place. A memorable place for a special night out!

Great and romantic restaurant, nice and friendly people that took good care of us, food was abselutely perfect. It is pretty expensive but the portions are huge and it is worth a try if you like steak or seafood. It is on the north side of town what was not a big deal for us, since our hotel was in that area as well.
