Laughing Ladies Restaurant, Salida

Great place for a night of fine dining. I had smoked chicken and my partner had the duck. Both were great! The polenta & mushroom app is so very good. I could just order two and make that a meal! We had the coconut cream tart and creme brûlée for dessert. The female owner waited on us and the male owner told us about the history of Salida. If you're near Salida, this place is a must! It's pricey, but the price is in line with the food quality. We will definitely return when we come ba k this way!

We detoured to Salida on our way home to make sure we tried this place due to the rave reviews. The service was average, the food was well below average. Our food was not cooked well, the various components of the dishes were either under or over cooked. It is dificult to screw up fried eggs, but they managed to do so. The biscuits were dense, damp and flavorless. Maybe we caught them on a bad day, but waiting 40 minutes for this in a restaurant that was not even full was a bit much.

Laughing Ladies is a great place to eat lunch. We were passing through Salida and had a wonderful meal. The salmon salad was one of the best ever, and the chicken fettucine boasted a light sauce and fresh ingredients. I'll go back again when I visit the town!

When traveling from Santa Fe we often go out of our way to stop for dinner at the Laughing Ladies. Great food and a friendly atmosphere!!

Absolutely FABULOUS place to eat!! Best in town...Love Jeff and Marcy, you won't believe how good the food is in this little town restaurant!

As far as we are concerned its the only place to go in this wonderful town if you want a truly fantastic meal. If Jeff is on a "roll" that night your'e in for good banter AND good food!!

I have eaten here twice in the last three years. What a wonderful surprise! The wine list was once mentioned in the Wine Spectator - and is probably as fine a list as can be found in Colorado. The food was way beyond expectations and was the product of a classically trained chef. What a delight! And in Salida, yet! Go figure. Reason enough to go to Salida!

Visited on Saturday, 4/28/07. The food was great, but I have to agree, it was undercooked pork and chicken....perhaps that is the way the chef likes it as he so stated, but we too sent the pork back once and were hesitant to send it back twice. The wait staff was good, yet for all their desire for us to have reservations, there were empty tables all night. It was a real stuffy and high-fallootin atmosphere that I will not go to again. I am a food snob and love great food, but where was the human quality of a Colorado Mountain town? I must say the name does not do this place justice. The "laughing ladies" while historically of course were not necessarily laughing, were proably at the least friendly and courteous, and welcoming. Our waiter and the waitress and bus service that night semed to be the only "real" people there. The rest could incorporate a bit of humilty and grace.

What a surprise to find this place in Salida, CO. Salida is pretty rural, only 5800 souls here. The Laughing Ladies Restaurant belongs in Denver or Chicago. The owners left Napa Valley 10 years ago to live in the mountains, close to skiing and fishing, and thank goodness they found Salida. Owner Jeff is very talkative, and he gave me the whole story over my fresh halibut dinner. All the food is prepared fresh, with out using microwaves or can openers. They learned a lot in Napa Valley, and mostly the passion shines through. Killer wine list, including a bottle of Franciscan Oakville Estate Cabernet for only $36 bucks. Oh, one of the chefs is now running their Downtown Bakery around the corner, and they make an AWESOME sourdough baguette. Yeah, sourdough in Salida, CO Can you believe?!? Try any fish dinner they serve, you can't go wrong. Just remember to call ahead, as their hours are a bit unusual closed tues/wed(?) I think. Craig in Colorado Springs

Horrible food and service, waitress stuffy to say the least. Chicken was undercooked, had to send it back twice before they got it right. Way overpriced for what you get. I'll go somewhere else next time I'm in Salida!
