We used to be enthusiastic diners at the Colorado Springs location of the Elephant Bar. We even used to buy Elephant Bar gift cards at Costco. Last year towards fall we noticed the quality slipping at the Elephant Bar in Colorado Springs. We had a salad and it was moldy so we informed our waitress and the manager came over and we told him we did not want to make a big deal of this and he offered to buy us dessert. We were satisfied and let it go at that, realizing that mistakes happen and that was that. We went again before the holidays and the service was mediocre and we felt the food quality was just so so.
Yesterday we decided to give it another try as we enjoy the tempura salmon rolls. My wife felt that the rice in our salmon rolls seemed to be at least a day old. Our guest ordered a burger and my wife and I decided to split a one as well. Our very negative surprise came when the burgers that we and our guest were served were from pre-made frozen patties. This was something never before experienced at the Elephant Bar. Their burgers in the past were delicious and fresh, not so yesterday. The service was poor as well; it took 25 minutes before our drinks arrived and all we had was iced tea. This is not at all what it used to be. My wife and I wondered if the Colorado Springs location is under new management since we have noticed a general decline in standards since last summer. We were in a hurry so we did not tell the wait staff or the manager of our concerns. At this point we do not intend to return to the Elephant Bar again.
Too bad, as I mentioned before, we used to consider the Elephant Bar to be a good experience and a good value. When the economy first started to slow down it was one of the rare places that was full. I guess with the continuing decline in our economy, the management felt that it was ok to lower their quality standards, but with times being difficult we have decided to spend our time and money at other restaurants where quality still matters.
