Giuseppe's Old Depot Restaurant

Description

Since 1957 this dining mainstay has been serving the area from a 114 year old train depot. It is one of the few restaurants that meshes dining with true history. It is so authentic that it offers "trackside" dining where you can watch real freight cars rumble by outside. Take your pick of numerous American and Italian specialties. The lasagna, prime rib, and stone-baked pizzas are very popular, and the Baggage Cart Salad Bar is packed with so many choices that it pleases more than just vegetarians.

my sisters wedding reception
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/30/07
We had my sisters wedding reception there. Her wedding was very short notice, only 2 weeks and they put together a FABULOUS menu and banquet room. The cost was awesome (about $800 for 50 people) and the decor was fantastic, they set a special cake table and everything!! The centerpieces matched exactly, the food was great it was amazing!

BAD BAD BAD!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/4/07
We ate there tonight for the first time for our Anniversary. The food was COLD. We got our salad and soup WITH our meal. Soup was cold. Ordered a turkey sandwich and got potato salad with it....no mashed potatoes as it states on the menu. NEVER WILL GO BACK AGAIN.

Nice Downtown restaurant
By William, 2/7/06
My wife and I eat here from time to time and are pretty happy usually. The building itself is terrific, and the food is above average.

Neat little place to visit!
By Evaloni, 10/17/05
We love this place! The restaurant is an old train depot next to a working set of train tracks! It has a super romantic atmosphere and the kids will love to watch the trains go by. Unfortunately, the food doesn't keep up with the awesome ambiance of the place. There are, however, a few very good things on the menu. Their salads are delicous and you HAVE to try the calzones! Another good eat is the chicken cordon blue which is what Luke usually gets!!

Won't go back again.
By Cathy B, 9/11/05
The food here is average at best. When my son was little, he liked to go and watch the trains go by while he ate. Now that he is too old to find that fun, we won't go back again.

Good food but overall a disappointment
By Jerry D, 9/5/05
Found Giuseppe's here in Yahoo and were really excited looking at the menu. The restaurant is in an old train depot and has a wonderful atmosphere. We were seated in a room facing the mountains which was an issue since the sun was shining in the room and the a/c wasn't working. It was a half hour until our order was taken - don't go here unless you have time to spare. Once we went to refresh our drinks ourselves. The food, once we got it was pretty good overall. I had the teriyaki chicken which was very good and one other in our party had a bacon burger which was also very good. My wife was disappointed by the salad bar although the selection was immense she didn't have much luck with what she got - said the thousand island dressing was like ketchup. Prices are very reasonable - four of us ate for $40. Since we were on vacation I doubt we will be here again. If I lived here I would give it another chance.

A must if you live here or are visiting
By Julie A, 8/21/05
This is a beautiful restaurant inhabiting an old train station. By far, the best item on the menu is their reuben. It's the only thing I ever order there. I've tried other dishes, but nothing compares to it. Everything else is just average in comparison. Very nice staff, too.

Very Local Feel - Good Value
By Scott, 2/10/05
Nice atmosphere on the train tracks. My Calzone was average. Will go back, but not in a big hurry.

Wonderful atmosphere and food!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/27/04
What an incredible experience it was to find such an amazing restaurant in the age of chains and franchises. The building is over 120 years old and is just stunning- from the giant oak doors, original tile floors, cupolos and rare art, it was more museum than restaurant in many ways!

The menu was one of the largest and most diverse I have ever seen and the service just wonderful- very prompt and friendly. I was told the restaurant seated over 700 people and for a place this size, the service was nothing short of spectacular.

The building and restaurant themselves were wonderful but I also enjoyed the great view of Pike's Peak and the 4 to 5 freight trains which passed about 10 feet outside the window.

All in all, I can't imagine having visited Colorado Springs without a trip to Giuseppe's. This is definitely THE restaurant to see when you are in town.
