Uwe's German Restaurant

Description

For almost 15 years this small, family restaurant with a big reputation has been serving authentic German fare. Despite its heavy German lean the interior does not, thankfully, go overboard with German decor. The menu includes potato and sausage soup, Weiner Schnitzel, Rouladen, Sauerbraten and goulash. The full bar includes a limited wine list and a nice selection of German and European beers. Saturday's feature live music.

Absolutely delicious and 100% authentic german food! I'm german and was dissapointed with the Edelweis, granted the atmosphere is great but the food is not authentic there and it was way overpriced. Uwe's is a must try for anyone! The portions are very generous and the prices won't make you faint! My hubby and I go there almost any chance we get on date nights, you can't go wrong! The schnitzel and spaetzle are divine!:) Just a tip another german restaurant garanteed to appeal to those of you who visit restaurants mainly for the food and price is the Schnitzel King off 85/87. This one and Uwe's beat the Edelweis in regards to food and price by miles!

Uwe's is the one restaurant we always visit when in Colorado Springs. The food is authentic German cuisine, cooked with the finest ingredients with large portions. Jaeger schnitzel is our favorite with rich mushroom gravy with sides of german potatoes and red cabbage. Homebaked bread is presented before the meal. Brings back memories of my mother's homecooked meals, definitely comfort food for the soul!

I have been born and raised in Germany, still hold german citizenship and I can only agree with all that was said her. The food is the most authentic I have tried here in town, though I haven't tried Schnitzelfritz yet. Comments about somewhat outdated decor and not so great neighborhood are also correct. but hey, I don't go out to eat to a neighborhood. You just pay for the higher lease cost. One time (when I was new in town) I tried Edelweiss and I promise anyone who will listen, I will never go there again!!!! The food was bland, americanized. no German chef would ever serve at home. True, if you want authentic german experience, take the good food with the bad (closed day for staff off-work day) and enjoy!!!:-)

Having read numerous other reviews of Uwe's German Restaurant, I felt that I had to chime in. My overall rating for Uwe's is 4 stars - a resounding 5 stars for the food, and 3 stars for the service and ambiance. Their location is iffy, the decor is dated, and the service is usually marginal - much like any small restaurant or gasthaus in Germany. You don't go to Uwe's for the atmosphere; you go for the food, which is good and authentic. I lived in Germany for over 7 years and vacation there whenever possible, so I feel that I'm somewhat qualified to rate their food as authentic. Those reviewers who prefer the Edelweiss over Uwe's are more concerned with the atmosphere than the food - Uwe's has, by far, the better and more authentic food of the two. The Edelweiss does have a better location and a nice German kitsch atmosphere, but the food there is marginal at best. If you want to impress Americans with a faux-German dinner, take 'em to the Edelweiss. If you want to impress your German friends with an authentic German meal, there's no substitute for Uwe's. PS - it still amazes me that in a town this size, with a fairly large military and German presence, there are no NICE, AUTHENTIC German restaurants. Love the food at Uwe's, but the decor and service don't encourage me to keep coming back. . .can SOMEONE please open a nice, modern, friendly place that serves food as good as Uwe's?!?

This is one of my favorite places to eat and the Jager Schnitzle is my favorite. Service and food is always excellent. I recommend reservations as they are very popular place to dine.

This is the best German food outside of Germany. We have eaten there for years and have recommended friends eat there and everyone just loves it. The staff is friendly and service is great..Hate the Edleweiss..lousy food and atmosphere..a bit on the snotty side...Uwe's is the best!

The food was good, don't get me wrong, but the service was terrible. It took us forever to get seated, to get served our dinner and to be offered desert. I will not go back. The restaurant is tiny, the decorations were from the 70's and the waitress was not good at all. She didn't offer me another drink and she forgot my daughter's refil.

This is one of our favorite places in Colorado Springs. It lacks the atmosphere and charm of a place like Edelweiss, but the food is much better than Edelweiss, and that's why I go to a restaurant. I love the Rahmschitzel (as well as the pork and Veal schnitzels), and the brats are my wifes favorites. The portions are good sized and they have a nice variety of german beer, and on Friday and Saturday they have a live accordian player. We go as a couple so we usually get in without a problem, but if you have 4 or more I'd recommend making reservations.
