Absolutely love Schmidt s. The new owners have made some amazing changes and brought the quality and customer service back up to where I remember it used to be!
The baked goods are AMAZING!, and I m not one to write a review of anything. . . but I felt compelled to review how great their sweets are!
They also have a new restaurant menu and their food is fantastic. 5 stars for sure. Highly suggest anyone who has not tried Schmidt s give it a try for all your cakes, pies, sweets, and catering needs. Also, suggest anyone who was disappointed in the past due to Schmidt s going through hard times, give them a second look!
Unprofessional and appalling. This is how I would describe the service and the wedding cake just delivered for my daughters wedding. During the delivery trip they actually tried to transport the cake assembled - which of course failed resulting in their destroying half of the cake. Schmidts then attempted a Frankenstein assembly of the cake with two new layers which were not the right size. The cakes decoration (which was not complicated at all) could have been done better by an infant. Uneven, no eye to detail, just absolutely horrible! Earlier this week I called to discuss the issues and was told that the Manager, would return my call immediately. Well you guessed it - no call back. They have their payment and they just dont give a damn. So if you want a cake for a wedding that is what YOU PAID FOR, go anyplace else but Schmidts.
Now the funny thing is, if this baker had shown any concern for their sloppy work or customer satisfaction...or even had they picked up the phone to discuss this, you probably wouldn't be reading this review...but this is the price for arrogance, ineptitude and a general lack of professionalism.
I was deeply saddned today when I went to the bakery and was brousing wedding cakes and was asked to leave the room because they were conducting a job interview in the same room. I love the bakery items and to restaraunt food is good. I felt like my business was not important to them. I called the manager and was called back and apologized to by the woman who asked me to leave. Too little too late in my opinion!
The Bakery is absolutely 5 star...a few dollars more than a walmart cake, but OMG, so worth it! Very reliable too.
Have not tried the deli
The restaurant is usually good food and has a great German flair. The Sunday brunch is a bit pricey for us since the only way to get your money's worth is to overeat. But the individual meals are hearty and yummy.
Very rude and unprofessional wait staff. I ordered a non-fat latte' and was given a mocha then was accused of not telling her what flavor I wanted (Um.. because I didn't want flavor?!?) and then accused of ordering a mocha not a latte'. I also ordered breakfast, but apparently was not allowed to ask any questions regarding the menu, then had to point out they didn't give me everything included on the menu. Businesses are closing left and right in this community. You would think a paying customer would be welcomed. Won't be returning.
American style bakery items, but try the true Bauernbrot (farmer's rye bread) and other German selections. The deli has authentic wursts (sausages), and some German groceries are offered. A restaurant completes the experience.

We were having an out of town wedding in Estes Park. Schmidt's brought our cake up to the reception. We ordered everything over the phone, sent a picture of what it would look like, and to my suprise it was 10 times better than what I ever expected. It was beautifully decorated and the taste was to die for. We had carrot cake and chocolate with raspberry filling- all with butter cream frosting. We're making a special trip through Loveland next month for our six year anniversary just to have another piece of our wedding cake!
I have not tried the deli portion of Schmidt's (altho' I've heard it's good), but their baked goods are wonderful. They have lots of traditional German baked goods and I am SO glad after having to leave some great German bakeries behind when we moved here from Missouri.
