Taj Mahal Restaurant, Fort Collins

The saag is very good. Yum yum's and the taj mahal are both decent places to catch some foreign flavors.

This is the first time I've read a negative review of the Taj, but then I admit I go there only for the lunch buffet. I have eaten in Indian restaurants from Calcutta to London, cooked a lot of Indian food myself, and consider myself somewhat of a connoiseur of this cuisine. The Taj serves up good, tasty fare. They will deliver naan to your table to ensure it's hot, they have decent service, the tandori is well made, the daals and curries are delicious. It is authentic down to the mint and the tamarind chutneys! You will not find a better deal in Fort Collins than the buffet lunch at the Taj, a great price for exotic and authentic cooking!

I don't think Coloradoans really know good Indian food to be honest. And that's not a jab at the people, I love this place. I'm a bit of an Indian food connoisseur as well as a home-schooled cook who has worked in many restaurants over the years. I've eaten at Indian restaurants all over the U.S. I really didn't think Taj Mahal was all that great. Their portions are really small (with the exception of the giant plate of rice they give you). I got the Chicken Ticca Masala (first bad sign... the spelling should be Tikka). There was about a half of a chicken breast cubed up and swimming in a sauce that I swear was from a jar. My girlfriend got a Kafta dish which came with 4 small Kaftas which she said tasted frozen. A bit on the pricey side for what you get. You certainly won't have leftovers to take home. I might come back for the lunch buffet some time because it's cheaper and I can make my own portions. But we were not impressed at all. If you want good Indian food... look up some recipes. It's easy. And if you need spices go to Vitamin Cottage. They are cheap there.

My boyfriend and I absolutely love the Taj Mahal! The food is excellent; by far the tastiest Indian cuisine I've had anywhere. The food is well-priced and the staff is always happy to give you extra rice upon request. The naan bread is to die for, and the samosas are tops! Korma and Saag are our favorites. The service there is amazing. The waiters are always friendly and classy. We've even gotten a complimentary dessert, on the house! Go Taj Mahal! We love you!

If anyone has read my other reviews, they'd know I don't dish out the stars generously. I've been rather disappointed by the restaurants of Fort Collins. This place has real Indian food and I know Indian food. The service is prompt and the food is just fantastic. If only my vegetable korma were as good. The only reason I didn't give it the full five stars is because it's a bit on the pricey side. The atmosphere is a bit lacking, but you'll be so distracted by the good food, you won't notice. It's worth it!

This is the best Indian food I have had in Colorado. The service is fantastic and the owner is very attentive to his customers. I can't say enough of how much I love this place. After having tried to find another place to cheat on Taj with, and finding none, it stays at the top of my list as my favorite place to eat. Thank you Taj Mahal!

The food and service are pretty good, although I'd have preferred a milder dal soup and a hotter tandoori. The seating is a bit cramped and parking isn't that easy, although you can park in the bank parking lot on the other side of Mason, at least in the evening. I like the ambiance - it's more authentic than some places I've been, but what do I know - I've never been to India! You get a good meal without having to fork out lots of cash.

I love Taj Mahal. Their food is always top notch and always served at your desired level of heat (or not for those of us who don't like food hot and spicy). Their Mango Lasse is delicious. I've also really enjoyed their naan, saag, tandoori chicken, tandoori shrimp, and a number of other dishes whose names I can't recall. On top of that the owner always makes a point of coming by the table to make sure you're enjoying your meal and he always seems to be in good spirits. Parking can be a little bit of a challange if you don't like to walk, but the downtown parking garage is only a block and a half away (and at 50cents/hour, can't be beat for price).
