The Elk dog was ridiculously greasy and the regular dog was okay. The place is axctually quite nice but for the second time, our wait exceeded 30 mins- for two dogs and an order of onion rings. The bun bread broke apart as well...have had much better. The girl making orders was taking and making one order at a time...slowly. One person should be cooking the meat while another takes orders, gets toppings ready, sautes onions, peppers, etc. I was watching and geting so frustrated with the molasses-like work.
The only saving grace is that there was shade to sit in...under trees. After two similar experiences (that my friends mirrored) I will think twice about stopping there again. Choices are limited on 285 but there are other places.
We've been stopping at Coney Island for almost 30 years. I don't know what it is about the food or the preparation, but it is worth the wait. When they first moved to Bairley, the service was slow, but it was good yesterday with new people working there.
This place is a family tradition! We went when it was still in Conifer as kids, and now, the new location has opened and it's as wonderful as ever. Only thing I want to know is, why did they move all of the business cards from the booths? The booth walls used to be covered in cards of local business owners. Anyway, the hot polish is a favorite of our family! I'm stopping by today on my way home! Yummy!!!!!
The renovation and new location are great.... the food is as awesome as ever! We hit Coney Island on the way home form skiing every time, coming over Hoosier and Kenosha passes and then.... Coney Island!
I grew up going on family vacations to stay at Glen Isle Resort near Bailey. The Coney Dog was always an indicator that we were getting close! It's a nostalgic landmark I always love to see. Now that it's in Bailey - even better!
I last ate there with my husband before its move - It was 2005. It does need some TLC - but it is diner Americana at its best. The cheese fries were especially yummy. If nothing else, I recommend it for the experience - it will be remembered by children. Trust me! ;-)
I've been there twice now and would reccomend it to everyone who's going to Colorado. The building is in the shape of a 42 foot hot dog in a bun with relish and mustard on top. It only has 2 booths and 2 tables but it's worth it all. They have a deck outside to eat weather permitting. Last time we were there we ordered our food and ate our food in the van. This is a MUST SEE!!
