Mountain Flying Fish, Breckenridge

This is the ONLY five-star restaurant in Breckenridge, Colorado. If you love sushi, this is the place you'll want to be several times during your trip. For locals, I know of people who go there two and three times per week. It's almost a local sushi-lover's hangout, because you see the same people in there around the same times each time you go. My favorite is the VOLCANO ROLL... it's generally done with spicy tuna, but I like it done with spicy yellowtail. It's wrapped in a soy wrap - and with their grade of rice (there are over a hundred grades of rice, did you know?) it just melts in your mouth. I also love trying their specials every night. When they get something special in, you better try it or it won't be there the next day or time of your visit. Tetsuo is the best Japanese sushi chef that I've ever experienced. They are nothing like Chinese sushi chefs that won't accommodate you.... Tetsuo will make you anything you want if you tell him what is in it so I say "get creative!" Tell him what you like and ask him to make you something "special" and he will. For people who don't like sushi - and I used to be one of them - their menu and nightly specials are extensive and worth commenting on. I love the cooked Japanese food, as well, and absolutely love their menu all around. Don't complain if there is a line, it's your fault you didn't get there early..... Just KNOW it's WORTH THE WAIT IN GOLD. You will have sushi on your table once you're seated very quickly, as they work hard to accommodate everyone.... and you'll be glad you waited in order to experience the best sushi you've probably ever had.

This is by far the best sushi and freshest fish in Summit County... I would even go as far as saying in all of Colorado. We travel the world and in each place, we search for the best sushi restaurants. We should be Japanese! In fact, our son lived in Japan for three years and we spoiled him with Tet's sushi before he went... and all the while he complained that no where in Japan was as good as this. Of all of top favorite sushi places over the past 20 years around the world, we have to say that this is among the top three. The others are in San Diego and Hawaii, that are less than 24 hours old. We've even traveled all over Colorado, to Vail and several other places and they don't come close. Tet will make you anything you want, even if it's not on the menu, and so will the back kitchen... which is great for non-sushi lovers. Their menu is extensive and everything is wonderful. Their rolls and daily specials are sure to become your new favorite. Don't waste your money going anywhere else, or you'll regret it.... and, lastly, get their early if you don't want to wait. Everyone knows this place has the freshest sushi they can get anywhere, at least within a day's driving distance, so it fills up fast and there will be an hour-plus wait if you don't plan accordingly.
