Whale's Tail, Breckenridge

AVOID THIS PLACE! Should have known better. Arrived Saturday at about 7:15pm. The place was empty but decided to try anyway. The place is dirty, even the physical menus had food on them. My wife decided to try the Filet Oscar and I opted for the 8oz strip with grilled shrimp. The wife had a couple of bites out of hers and commented that the crab seemed foul and the so-called filet seemed like old supermarket hamburger. The entire entrée was smothered in some sort of strange sauce. My steak was overcooked. Normally I would not mind if the meat was tender and not dredged through a bucket of Morton salt. One bite out of that was enough. The grilled shrimp was overcooked. It was smothered what I believe to be mustard and peanuts. Neither of us ate our meals. We drove to Frisco and found a nice place named Tuscato for dinner. Avoid the Whale’s Tail in Breckenridge

The whale's tail has been in Breck for as long as I can remember. Great bar atmosphere and food too. I always enjoy hanging out there, and entertainment is always good. They have great cheap shrimp too!

Whale Tail is one of the oldest restaurants in Breck- atleast for the past 20 years! Food is good and it's always busy. But for two, a meal plus one glass of wine was $60... I've had better food for $60 elsewhere. Back deck is for smoking but the views of 10-Mile Range are spectacular with the setting sun. Front deck is great for people watching and is smoke free!

The food was fine, but when we got are ticket the waiter had added a 15% gratuity even though the menu states on parties of 5 or more, we had only four. It may not sound like a big deal, but the oldest in are group was only 17 and when we brought it up what the menu said he replied "It is his discretion on how much to charge".

I have been dining & enjoying cocktail's at the Whale's Tail since 1974. Will return on every vacation to Breckenridge. Not only is the food great & consistent you must stop by and meet Bill, manager extraordainer! This man has become a Breckenridge legend over the past 30+ year's. Food, service, ambiance & management is the best!

The Whale's Tail was the first restaurant my wife and I dined as husband and wife while on or honeymoon, and we have spent all of our anniversaries there since! We stop in everyday after hitting the slops while vacationing in Breck! Nothing beats the 15 cent peal and eat shrimp with a bowl of the worlds best Clam Chowder, while having a cocktail by the fireplace! And for dinner the best meal in the world is their famous Fisherman's Pasta! If you enjoy fine pasta and fresh seafood this is the only way to go. For vacation, if you Go Breck...Go Tail!!!

it was 1984 we were on our senior trip it was only my second time to go sking the food was outstanding and it was one of the highlights of my trip i,ve always wanted to visit the whales tail again now its my 20year anniversary and i plan on coming back to visit with you thanksgiving week we have three kids [teenagers] and i want to see them share my memories of the whales tail.

I didn't believe our waiter, Paul, at first when he said the fish arrived fresh every other day. "Ice and airplanes", he said. Makes sense. Nice wine list. Prime rib (when they prepare it) or filet mingon with a couple of crab legs is the way to go! Ask for Paul, you won't be disappointed!
