White Fence Farm
Come to the White Fence Farm for the afternoon to visit animals at the petting zoo and then stay for dinner and enjoy some down-home country cooking. Kids love all the activities the restaurant provides, including horse drawn carriage rides, a petting zoo and playground. Get ready for some family-style cooking, with tables full of corn fritters, red beets, cottage cheese and other offerings. Entrees include broiled pork chops, grilled beef liver and award-winning fried farm chicken. Desserts are just what you would expect from a country innpies, fruit cobblers and ice cream.
Great food with a great atmosphere. It's a wonderful, family themed restaurant. The staff and servers are top notch, the food is delicious. The grounds offer hours of things to do (petting zoo, play ground, shops, entertainment, arcade, tube slide, play house for small children, etc.) Even if there is a wait to be seated, there is plenty to do to keep adults and children entertained while waiting. I can't give this place enough stars.
I took my family to White Fence Farm last night and had the BEST and I mean BEST fried chicken on the planet. No joke. I am not a fan of fried chicken but their signature chicken was the best! You sit down to a traditional southern dinner like grandma used to make when visiting on Sundays. They serve you corn fritters (also the best), slaw, bean salad, cottage cheese and beets (all you can eat too). The atmoshphere is like down on the country farm, a small petting zoo for the kids, entertainment in an old barn style building, a tree house and playground for the kids. Stunning gazebo with fountain. Quiet slice of down home in the middle of the city. The grounds are something you would see in a movie (ponds, well maintained landscape and walkways to stroll after dinner) Carriage rides avail too. Truley a place to take visitors for fun. When I went, they offered a Cheap Eats card for $7 which allows you discounts at certain times. Well worth it. A large soda alone was 2.95 and with the card, the drinks were free. Our meal was 11.95 each and we each had left overs for the next day. Well worth the money. A must if you have never been. If anyone knows the recipe for the corn fritters, please do share. My family could not stop eating them!
Awesome place, awesome food.
This is a family favorite of ours - We even held our Wedding Reception here a few years ago. I have never walked away disappointed. The atmosphere is great, the staff are helpful and sincerly friendly and the food is fantastic. As far as the chicken breasts being small as someone mentioned - that's something I barely think of considering I grew up on a farm and know that REAL chicken breasts, are usually not the huge monster sizes that you get at many grocery stores or KFC. The chicken is always wonderful, hot, moist and tasty. It tastes like chicken should!
The sides are awesome. There's much to walk around and see....The nights when they have a band in and singing are particularly fun! It's a true place for family - for good family times and fun.
I have been here twice, the first time, the food was really good and the service was excellent so I couldn't wait to go back for my birthday. Well, this time it was not so great - the chicken breasts had maybe 3 bites of meat on them and they tasted as though they had been re-heated like a frozen dinner. The price per person was $14.99.
The service was terrible, our waitress was friendly but we had to ask for everything twice and then she was very slow about getting what we asked for (which was only 2 things) and she only had 3 tables on a slow night. Even though my husband informed our waitress we were celebrating my birthday it was not even acknowledged.
The reason I gave it 3 stars is because some of the sides were very good and I love the shops which have great merchandise and reasonable prices. The grounds are also beautiful.
This is an experience not to be missed. Families will love the farm, especially in the summer. There is a large playground with a neat treehouse, a peacock pen, a fish pond, a petting zoo (bring along a handful of quarters to buy animal feed), carriage rides, several stores featuring various country collectibles and gifts, and an arcade inside a silo.
The food is exceptional. The farm is known for its fried chicken, which is both delicious and healthy due to the fact that the chicken is first pressure-steamed to cook it throughout, and then lightly fried just enough to make it crispy on the outside. Each meal is served with a standard assortment of sides, including bean salad, cole slaw, cottage cheese, beets, and the extremely popular corn fritters (kind of like a donut hole made with corn and sprinkled with powdered sugar).
For an extra adventure, ask your server if someone (usually the manager) will give your group a tour of the kitchen. We were astonished to find it in immaculate condition, and were informed that the White Fence Farm is consistently one of the highest-scoring restaurants in health inspections. You'll feel even better about the food you've just eaten when you have a chance to witness firsthand the busy but spotless conditions under which it is prepared.
The menu is a little pricy, although they recently lowered the cost of their Chicken Dinner by two dollars, making it $11.99.
Overall, this is an excellent place to take friends or relatives who might be visiting from out of town, and a place we try to take our children at least a few times every year.
