Jax Fish House - Denver
Named One of the Best Seafood Restaurants in the US by Travel & Leisure Magazine, Jax is the home of FRESH and delicious. Chef Amos Watts receives jet-fresh seafood every afternoon, using refined global techniques to transform simple proteins and farm fresh produce into an unforgettable dining experience. Tim Harris & Josh Burbank are the heart and soul of The Best Team of Bartenders in Denver (Westword 2012). The cocktails and small batch, house made sodas at Jax are the height of good taste and purposeful preparation. Beginning January 2013, Jax is bigger, better, fresher and luncher. We've doubled the size of the world famous Oyster Bar and brought the kitchen into the dining room with made to order soups and pan roasts, prepared before your very eyes. For the first time ever, we are open for lunch, serving what we believe is the freshest, fastest and smartest menu, around.
We had dinner at Jax this last Friday night. You should make reservations because it's very small. We had about a 10 minute wait. The assistant manager came to our table directly after water was poured and asked if we had any questions. That was cool. He then relayed information we had given him to our waiter. That was great. The serving staff is totally knowledgeable about the food and drinks. The oysters were completely amazing. My brother had the 12 days of Jax and was so pleased. My daughter and I had the tuna and it was absolutely perfect. I have to say, when I travel, food is the most important part of the journey, and Jax is our new favorite in Denver. Everyone who serves there is happy and willing to please. The food is amazing and beautiful. My daughter will never enjoy a bloody mary anywhere else after Jax. We were all set to dine somewhere else, but their reviews didn't please me, so I chose Jax because of the reviews I read online. I wanted to enter a review to let everyone at Jax know that you're doing a great job and we will recommend your great restaurant to everyone we know! Thanks for a perfect evening.
Our group of three visited on a week night. We were sitted promptly. The atmosphere was great; music being placed reminded us of home (Memphis). Every one enjoyed their entres; the waiter was excellent.
Just ate at Jax Fish House tonight. Maybe because they where not busy but it was the best service I have ever had at a restaurant. Shrimp entree was good but it was kind of small. EVERYTHING ELSE WAS GREAT.
Go to McCormick & Schmick's instead! It's 2 blocks away, prices are similar to Jax, and they actually know how to cook fish!
In two visits, Jax disappointed both times. Both times my fish was overcooked and dry, and on this last visit my companion's scallops were so overcooked they were rubbery. On one visit the vegetable side dish was so salty that we couldn't finish it. On the other visit the side dish was crusty and half-warm as if it had been cooked much earlier and left sitting out to be microwaved on demand.
Prices are high (which is OK for a GOOD seafood place) and it's noisy.
My Fiance & I stumbled upon Jax two years ago, and it was an instant hit! They have great seafood for a landlocked state, a great atmosphere (its definitely not quiet though) and you can write your names on the walls! I love finding our names again each time we visit. We have never had a bad meal here and the Calamari is to die for. Great desserts & drinks too
I had an awful experience with Jax because of the slowest and most inattentive waitstaff. We started off with a platters of the raw oysters which were tasty, but didn't have enough crackers with them. We asked for more crackers but didn't receive them until 30 minutes later, which is after the second platter of oysters came out. The waitstaff didn't pay attention to empty drinks and took more than an hour to bring out the main entree, which was less than appetizing. Overall I had high expectations of Jax fish house but was greatly disappointed. I've had much better service and food at any of the Red Lobster restaurants I've been to. If you're wanting to have a nice dinner in downtown Denver, then I'd recommend any of the other restaurants in the area. While my girlfriend and I were polite during the rediculously long wait for service, we made it aware to the waiter that we were displeased with our experience there. The waiter brought out a coupon for us to have a free entree at the next time we visit Jax. No thanks, we will difinitely will not be returning.
