Just got back from there (my buddy, my mother, and I drove from Eagle Pass to check the place out) and even though I wasn t too impressed with the portion size of the steaks, I would still recommend it to others (because of the taste, atmosphere, and other selections that you don t find in other places (mostly wine and good service at times)).
Again, the size of the steak was a bit underwhelming (then again I am a big boy ), but the taste was pretty good (I had the 10oz Jack s steak, my mother had the 5oz Rib Eye, and my buddy had this 14oz steak with cheese on it (it was NEW )). We didn t have any wine or anything, but they did have a selection there behind where I was sitting for anyone to choose from (and a recommended bottle at each table you could purchase), so that is good if you are into that. The place was built from actual logs, so that was awesome to be around and the two ladies (Crissy, and I didn t catch the older waitress s name) were very hospitable and really earned their tips helping not just us, but everyone else around them (we left them a decent tip, nothing too extravagant).
I d go again, but only if I am around the area or if I ever find anyone worth the drive over there to feast on some steak (not too fond of having to drive an hour+ to get to where I am gonna go eat).
Thanks for the pleasant time @ everyone at Jack s Steak House.
A bit on the pricey side, but worth it. No better or worse than other places in town. Good service. Best place for real steaks in Uvalde. Not the best place for BBQ, but everything on the menu is good. Sides are always good. I highly recommend the soups during cool weather.
I must also mention it's the only place in Uvalde with a decent wine selection (and, I think, the only place, period).
Our Last Visit To Jacks Steakhouse and Last
If you choose to eat at Jack's after reading this, before eating use your knife and fork to check your food for Metal Particles/Slivers.
Last night was my birthday, the family wanted to take me to San Antonio for dinner. I suggested we go somewhere local. The boys chose Jacks. About midway through the meal my youngest son took something out of his mouth, What is this? A large piece of metal was in his food (over 3/8 inch in length). We tried for several minutes to get out waitress attention. But, they were too busy talking at the cash register. After waiting for several minutes without being noticed. I took the metal piece to my waitress to the cash register and asked to speak to the owner as announced on the menu introduction page for problems of dis-satisfactions. The owner was not available; at this point I demanded her presence, as this was a serious problem. None of the staff on duty seem to be concerned about the metal piece my son almost swallowed. The waitress called someone and talked for several minutes. Got off the phone to tell me the owner was out of town. The metal piece was probably just a piece of metal from the scrub pads they use to clean pans!!!!!!! For me to leave my phone number and the owner would contact me when she returns. At this point my wife and I both became furious.
We left our meals on the table half eaten and still had to pay the ticket.
Until, the owners daughter Jackie Martinez took charge, Jacks Steakhouse was an average run-of-the-mill Southwest Texas Steakhouse. The atmosphere was enjoyable, the servers were great, prices were good and food quality and quintiles were good. My family of four (4) ate at Jacks once a week (sometimes more) and the boys favorite place over the chain owned hamburger establishments. A place to bring my big city out of state business associates for a taste of the country life.
However, our introduction a year ago to the new owner Jackie Martinez was very unprofessional and uncomfortable. Her interpersonal communication skills were very bad. However, her real self centered look at me skills were very good. We then noticed the waitress staff was subdued their upbeat personalities were missing, food quality and quantity was below average and over priced (read the fine print for extra charges). The atmosphere we became accustom to was gone.
Last night, upon our entrance one of the remaining staff commented It has been a long time since we have seem you. Hummm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I dont think this waitress will live long enough to see us return.
The owner still had not personally called to hear my complaint. I left my cell phone number.
My experiences at Jacks Steak House have been great! We have always enjoyed the food, the service, and especially the value for as much food as you get. We don't enjoy having to drive to San Antonio to pay an arm and a leg for a good steak which is the only alternative to local dining and for that I send a special thank you to Jacks Steak House for giving Uvalde in our opinion the #1 place to get a steak. I couldn't help but notice that when everyone was leaving the surrounding tables that they all ask for to go plates, I guess I'm not the only one that cant eat all the food on your plates. We had the opportunity to meet with the manager Mr. Martinez and she seems to have one of the biggest hearts out there, she seems very sincere in doing the best she can do to make us happy. Thank you for being so nice to me and my family. Keep up the good work!!!!
