This was my first time ever eating at any Pappadeaux resturant. First off the service was horrible here. The first waitress that we had serve our table was so rude. We did nothing wrong to her, we were just new patrons asking questions about the menu items. I guess this agrrivated her to the point of her rolling her eyes and walking off. We called for a manager and he brought us a new waiter who was really helpful but the mood had been destroyed. We then saw our former waitress serving another (white) table, to whom she was being extra friendly and considerate. So yes in my eyes racism is still prevalant in society. The over priced food was bland and probably spit in because as we were leaving we saw all the waiters and kitchen staff just staring at us kind of chuckling. Our appetizers were comped and was probably the best part of the meal. I wouldnt recomend this establishment and it has probably turned me off from the chain forever.
our food was pretty tasty, but for the price, i hope for much better service and i won't be going back. the waitress was nice but really didn't have much game. one table next to us had something comped for bad service, and she did not bring utensils to us or the other next table until after our entrees had arrived. if the dining floor is completely lacking, don't charge a ton to eat there.
My family and I eat here at least once per month. The overall quality of the seafood is the best in Austin and for the price can not be beat. Their blackened fish / Mahi Mahi is two thumbs up. Their fried foods are avg at best and the oysters on the half shell are small and not very good at times. Overall its a good place to eat and it does get packed.
The food was really salty (wouldn't expect anything less from Pdeaux)but good. This place is so open that you can't hear the next person to you. So if you don't mind screaming to get heard and order your food and drinks (and wait forever)then go ahead. Not my style.
Good southern style seafood no doubt, I used to be a regular. Unfortunately they fry their food with hydrogenated oils and they use imported seafood from China, including the crawfish which is inexcusable. I'll go back when these issues are rectified.
The is a review below this one that says somehting about Pappadeaux having low-quality food at expensive prices and that Red Lobster was better...lol Which basically shows where he/she are from.Well, I am From New Orleans Louisiana and i would pay double the price for any item on the menu as long as they keep the creole seasoning and cayenne pepper. If you are looking for one of the closest places to get really good New Orleans style dishes Pappadeaux is the place to be. But if you're anything like the guy below me who wants bland seafood with no taste, your best bet is to go to Red Lobster. And there is a reason for the price, which really isn't bad considering where we live. Good quality seafood comes from the Gulf and its cost money to get it here. You know what they say , you get what you pay for. But hey to each his own right? That guy below me is probably someone from Austin Who's been eating the bland stuff all his life and finally tasted something with some kick and couldn't take it. So to him it was probably not something to run and tell someone about. but me on the other hand, i am from the home of creole cooking and to come to austin and find a place where the food can actually compare to home, makes me ecstatic. but thats just me.
If you want a pile of low-quality crawfish tails, this is your go-to place. I have been to Pappadeaux (both in Austin and elsewhere) for a number of years. While it is significantly better than other seafood chains (red lobster, for instance). The food is surprisingly generic and low qualify for the number of people they pack in.
Over cooked tuna, oversalted salmon a-hoy!
I do like the food at this restaurant but the wait staff is mostly young, the atmosphere is comparable to Red Lobster but the prices are too much for the quality of food, I have had much better food at a way lower price. The wait staff are friendly and will be a good place to take a date but I would not recommend taking a large group or meet there for a family gathering because the prices.
