Fonda San Miguel Restaurant

Description

Step inside this hacienda-style restaurant and find yourself whisked far south to the Mexican interior, where fine food is served in a charming colonial atmosphere. Chef Roberto Sabatinez has added his own creative dishes to the menu of old favorites, including a wonderfully imaginative chile relleno that employs an ancho chile rather than the usual poblano. Traditional dishes are well-prepared and the desserts go beyond many Mexican restaurants where flan is the only offering. Brunch is not to be missed; especially for those who love the Mexican custom of making the late morning meal a long, leisurely affair.

Fonda San Miguel is one of the finest Restaurants in Texas. My Mrs. and I travel from Houston to Austin three times a year and we always make a point to dine here. The service is always attentive and helpful. The menu is challenging, (won't find a combo-plate here) and the cuisine is world class. I never thought I liked Chile Rellenos before dining here. As stated by others, there are several varieties. Non are the doughy-fried mess served at the mass-market joints. The cochinita pibil is the finest I've ever tasted. My Mrs. loves the mole to the point I bought their excellent cook book and attempt a recipe at least once a month. Rarest of all is the lamb, (all puns intended) as the chef knows how to listen to the customer. I like mine medium and most restaurants serve it rare to raw. At FSM, they serve the meal as I ordered it! The crepes are addictive. The brunch is an experience in sheer delight. No, it's not cheap, quality seldom is. I've read some of the other reviews and I think maybe they should stick to Taco Bell.

Sure, the food has been blanded out for Americans, but its quality is still evident. The environment itself is delicious. There is better Mexican food in Austin, but few are as enjoyable to eat in.

The food here is outstanding and they have the service to match. If you haven't been here yet, you're missing out! Try the watermelon margarita! :)

Fonda San Miguel

Fonda San Miguel is absolutely amazing. The atmosphere is beautiful! I can spend the whole evening looking at the beautiful decor. You cannot go wrong with whatever you order from their menu. The chile relleno is probably my favorite! They have their own organic garden, so the veggies on your plate are freshly picked and fantastic!

Best Mexican experience I have ever had. An impressive indoor atrium with a water fountain is the first experince you get when you walk through the door. The Chile con Queso is a must. The menu is Mexican and not TexMex. Reader beware.

Don't die until you've had brunch here, then go ahead so I can get another reservation. Start with margaritas and be sure to ask for their chipotle salsa if you like it hot. Fabuloso y sabroso!
