Past good reviews of this restaurant made us want to try it out and see what made it so special. We went on a weekday about 5:00 pm and found the service to be lacking. The waitress appeared to be handling about half of the restaurant by herself. After she brought us our food we never saw her again until she presented us with the check. We tried to pay with a debit/credit card; however, she never came by to collect it. After about ten minutes of waiting we left cash on the table and walked out. The chicken fried chicken was good, but the hamburger steak was tough and the enchiladas were greasy. Maybe we caught them on a bad day.
Our family was staying at a relatives lake house not too long ago, and we all had already been to Marty Mcflys, he Marriott, Russos & Pattons & we wanted to try something else, so we called local friends of ours and they highly recommended Tall Texan Bar & Grill. We went on a Thursday night at around 8pm, & sat on the back deck. It was wonderful. My wife & I decided to try the owners prime rib special. This cut of meat was cooked to perfection. My wife & I could not get over how tender & melt in your mouth it was. We also got baked potatoes & vegetable medley. Potato was great, the veggies were so fresh & delightful. Our son who was in for the weekend got a steak. He was pleasantly pleased. He exclaimed that the cut was tender and juicy. So all in all we were very, very impressed. The prices are extremely well considering how high the Marriott is, and in our opinion & friends opinions it tasted substantially better than the Marriott. So we got a great deal. We decided the next day when we had quite a few more relavtives come into town to go back. Again a wonderful experience. Couldn't ask for a better Friday night out. All the family let us know how wonderful each meal was, especially the steaks & special by the owner - (who by the way we met, really nice gentleman who once was a personal chef for President Clinton). He had asked us if we had tried his peach poundcake special & we told him no so he said I'll be right back, he brought us this dessert special that looked as good as it tasted. It was griddled peach poundcake with a scoop of cinnamon ice cream with drizzled caramel & sugar coated pecans. Wonderful!!!!!!!!!!! For anyone visting or living in the Hill Country, try this place. We come to Horseshoe Bay every now & then & we will from now on come to the Tall Texan every chance we get. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!!!!
