Tamale King, Buchanan Dam

I live within a few miles of Tamale King and eat there as often as I can afford to. I've eaten in mexican food places all over Texas and find Tamale King to rank at the top. While the mixed drinks are a bit expensive, they are delicious and comparable in price to Chili's, River City Grill & Doc's Seafood in Marble Falls. From 6pm til close, you will probably have to wait for a table and it can get a bit crazy, especially on Friday and Saturday nights. Due to this, the service might not be the best during these times. However, if you arrive between 11am and 5pm, you will have excellent service in a quieter atmosphere. The food is superb, tho, and well worth any wait...even if you have to ask for refills of drinks and chips. I'd recommend Tamale King to anyone, and I do...Just warn them beforehand about the possible wait in the evenings.

This place used to be great but now it is just mediocre. The chicken breast I had on a meal was paper thin. The margaritas are good.

A great place to stop in before dinner, after that the times can get really crazy since this is probably one of the most popular places to drop by after a long day at work. The food has never found a complaint from me, and I love their chips and hot sauce with a passion. I have only had a couple of their mixed drinks, but I can say the blue margaritas, and Long Island are well made. If you are looking for the best Mexican food in the hill country with a cold beer/mixed drink to throw back while talking to friends this is the place. Usually I stop in during their lunch specials from time to time, I recommend the fajitas.

Tamale King serves excellent "Central Texas Style" mexican food. I eat there every time I am in the area and will continue.

There hostess Amber is the best hostess i've every met. The server was Chris and he was also great. There tamales are very good. I'll eat there again.

Food is excellent! I eat there on a regular basis, their margaritas and Mexican martinis are awesome. Their waitstaff are very well trained and show great customer service skills. If you have to wait for a table it is well worth it.

you could go to a local grocery store and buy a few canned goods and duplicate their entire menu. The worst food ever.I love a good tortilla,but they don't have real ones. Just whatever the truck brings.everything is gross, nothing homemade about this joint.

I have eaten at the Tamale King many times. Food has always been good. The service is OK. The waiters try to remember everything you order with out writing it down. Quite often, they forget something. One piece of advice, don't order a top shelf margarita. The waiter asked what kind of tequila I wanted but failed to tell me that there was an extra charge for it. $7.25 to be exact. The margarita ended up costing $17.95!!!!! I drink lots of margaritas and it definitely wasn't worth that! Won't be going back. Found a better and cheaper place in Liberty Hill, Jardin Corona. Top shelf grande margaritas with Patron are $8.50 and well worth it. The food and service is excellent.

Not what it used to be and we have been going for about 10 years. We were seated in what used to be part of the waiting area and customers waiting for tables were right on top of us. My rice was served cold on a hot plate and we had to wait extremely long for services. One drink was served after we had finished eating. The waiter took so long to reurn with a credit card that I gave my money to the hostess

The Tamale King Restaurant serves up excellence on a plate. The off the beaten path trek to get there makes the experience all that more memorable! The owners run a tight ship and the waitstaff and bartenders have obviously been trained on how to please the patrons! Beautiful and tasty food, and behind the scenes top-notch standards can't miss! Take home some tamales to keep the momentum going!
