We USE to love this place. Has the classy feel but still comfortable for the family. But last summer we were very disappointed in the service. My family of 4 waited approx. 15 to be seated due to us having to ask the bartender to find someone to seat us. Then once we were seated we waited more than 20 mins. before we decide to just leave due to no one ever stopping to take our order, ask if we have been helped or even just say Hi. We were so disappointed. We are heading to Port A in few weeks and its very unlikely we will be eating here and its a shame all due to service.
Had fond memories of the place from years back and took out of town friends there after Sandfest (Apr'10). Just four ladies ordering sandwiches & salads off the lunch menu, nothing over the top or hard to make. We waited over an hour. The service was negligible, we had to ask for more tea while we waited from another wait person, because ours didn't come back until the food and check were served even though we all sat with empty glasses for nearly half an hour. When we asked about our food after an hour we were told they were short handed in the kitchen and the other waiter brought us some more bread. All I can say is that the bread is very good! The one cherry tomatoe on the salad had a black & white mildew spot right on the top of the salad! The prices were way over inflated for the quality of food, service and ambience. Won't be going back again, very disappointing!
Perfect gumbo and crab cakes. I am a gumbo affectionado, make some of the best, and Pelican's was as good as any. The crab cakes had large lumps of crab and were delicious. Service was very good. I have been a few times before and thought it was good, but this visit moved my rating to excellent.
I don't know where to start with Pelican's landing. This was the worst experience that I have ever had with a seafood restaraunt. I had the Fried Mahi Mahi with U10 Jumbo Fried Shrimp. The fish was the worst taste that I have had from any fish I have eaten. I do not turn down shrimp, but after one bite of the shrimp my stomach turned and I was unable to even look at the plate. My wife ate the crab cakes, or rather attempted to eat the crab cakes and could not stomach it. I thought surely, it couldn't be bad. I was wrong. My children ate the grilled cheese sandwich with french fries. There cannot be a way to mess up grilled cheese, but Pelican's Landing figured that out too. I spent $76.00 last night to only be disappointed and leave hungry.
This place is terrible and not worth the effort. First, hostess was disorganized and surly. Second, our order took 45 minutes to be served, and we orderd two po boys and pasta for the kids, so it wasn't a complicated meal. Third our server was either lazy or poorly trained, never apologized for the delays, we bussed our own table. Finally, bartender seemed incapable of processing more than a single drink order at a time. Additionally, i have seen cleaner bathrooms in filling stations along the highway. Avoid this place.
