Fujiya Japanese Garden
"Ogenki desu ka?" Fujiya Japanese Garden Restaurant is one of the first things you will hear from the friendly people at Fujiya Japanese Garden Restaurant. The wait staff at Fujiya enjoys taking time to take care of you, as they have been serving some of San Antonio's best Japanese cuisine and sushi since 1970. This is why one of the first things you will hear is "how are you?" in Japanese.
We ate here for the first time. The food was wonderful. We had the dinner for 2. And there is a story behind that one. All I can say is awesome.....service was excellent. We will be going back to this place when we go back to San Antonio.

I pulled up to an ample parking lot but was turned off by the ample supply of acorns on the ground. The wait staff was very exotic and weird looking. I had yakatory that was great and authentic and drank an ample supply brews. Over all, I felt that the food was plentiful, sufficient, abundant and ample and was also very generous. Kinda over priced but still ample. For an ample meal, visit fujia.
I visited this restaurant for my sister's birthday---a family affair. I was a little apprehensive (having never eaten Japanese), but it was great! Our waitress was very polite and talked and joked with us often. Sure, it took a little while to get our food (maybe 30-40 mins), but I would rather have something fresh than from under a heating lamp! We are definitely going back!
I've been eating at Fujiya since they were at their previous location. The two most consistent things about it is that the food has always been great and the service has always been slow (although usually tolerably slow).
Our last experience was less than satisfactory. One diner's food arrived after the other two had finished theirs. To make matters worse, we had to get another waiter just to run down ours to bring that last dish. Thanks to the bus boy we were able to pay our bill before the restaurant closed. It should be noted that all of the food was good and well prepared, though.
Fujiya has a great kitchen and sushi bar and also has a decent selection of sake, but their service problems make it tough to give them any more stars.
THE ONLY REASON WHY FUJIYA IS NOT WORTHY OF THE 5TH STAR IS BECAUSE OF THE SERVICE
THAT SOMETIMES COMES WITH SITTING IN THE MAIN DINING ROOM, ALTHOUGH THE FOOD ITSELF IS 6 STARS........ I WAS ALSO THERE THE NIGHT THAT RAMBO (AKA- THE MILITARY GUY ) WAS COMPLAINING.. I UNDERSTAND THAT THE SERVICE IN THE DINING ROOM CAN SOMETIMES TAKE LONG, I CANT IMAGINE THAT ANYONE WAITING TO EAT WOULD WAIT THAT LONG BEFORE BRINGING IT TO THE ATTENTION OF THE MANAGER/OWNER.... SUSHI! ( GOOD AND FRESH ) IS USUALLY MADE TO ORDER BY HAND... SURE OTHER PLACES IN TOWN ARE MUCH FASTER, BUT COMING FROM SOMEONE EATS OUT EVERY EVENING, AND SUSHI 2-3 TIMES A WEEK, FUJIYA IS THE BEST IN TOWN.. JUST SIT BACK HAVE A BEER/SAKE AND WAIT PATIENTLY---- ITS WORTH THE WAIT. SO IF RAMBO HAPPENS TO READ THIS REVIEW, MY ADVISE TO YOU IS TO JUST LEAVE THE SUSHI EATING TO THE PRO'S AND ENTERTAIN YOUR FRIENDS AT HOME WITH SUSHI FROM CENTRAL MARKET.......OH!!!!! F.Y.I.!!!! 99CENT SUSHI DOES NOT EXSIST... IF ITS 99CENTS ITS NOT SUSHI!!!
I was there when the military guy was complaining, The way he was acting was an embarassment to his uniform. The owner and the lady did everything to try and satisfy him, it seemed he didn't hear a word.
The food is excellent, some times it takes longer due to rushes. But worth waiting for. What did he want when he eats for 99 cents at other places??
I had the worst experience I can remember at this location. We arrived on Sunday evening about 8:00 pm on 3-16-2008. After ordering our drinks we submitted our sushi order which took nearly an hour and half. I inquired on a couple of occasions I became very concerned at about 9:30 pm so I decided to complain. Speaking to the manger (Asian Female, I didn't get a name) the owner came out from the kitchen. While complaining to the owner they both laughed, that upset me so I TOLD him to stop laughing. He then suggested I leave. Watching people get their orders that arrived after us was bad enough but being asked to leave at 9:40 pm w/ no dinner was worse. I choked on my pride so the others in my group could at least eat having waited as long as we did. I paid my bill for the group and tipped my waitress...wasn't her fault, and left. But not before he thanked me for serving our country and walked away in a very sarcastic tone. I was in uniform having just left a weekend exercise. For a much better experience I suggest Goros Sushi on Mossrock, they even have a happy hour....99 cent Susi and its great.
