Description

This burger joint on the city's near-North side has been cranking out burgers for 23 years. Some people may think that a burger is a burger, but they probably haven't been to Chris Madrid's. A consistent winner of various critics' polls over the years, the restaurant won the 2006 local newspaper's Best Burger award.Like a lot of local burger places, this spot is decidedly low-tech and high-taste. The Cheddar CZ is its signature meal, but you might want to try the devastatingly good bean burger, too. Add an order of fries and a cold beer and you are in hamburger heaven.

Food was good as always but the service was slow. There were alot of people waiting and grumbling about their orders. Also if you have kids beware, the big bang theory nouveu nerd likes this place and frowns when kids act like kids (laughing, silliness but nothing over the top). I guess they figure they were at the pinnacle of social grace when they were kids. Macho nacho with jalapenos is a winner.

On a visit to San Antonio in 1998 a local budy took me there, been back countless amts of times...The burgers and fries and pico is the greatest in the Texas and maybe even the US...it never cease to amaze me how quick they serve excellent freshly cooked food with all the customers they have....I live 20 miles away and it is worth every minute it takes to get there....There is not another burger shop that even comes close to Chris Madrid's....5 stars all the way on all of there food thats for sure!!!!

I lived in SA in the late 90's...loved going to Chris Madrids, havent found a burger that even comes close. I always ordered the Porky...mmmmm....I took my mother who was visiting me and she talks about Chris Madrids....they stick to what they know, basic goo ol hamburgers... The funny part no matter how many times I went there I always got lost, lol....

You have to eat the Tostada Burger, it should be the only burger on the menu. If you order anything else its a mistake. Go there, try it, then review again.

For some reason folks here rate Madrid's as #1. I don't know why. YES the burgers are big, huge in fact, as is the bun it is on. They put a ton of toppings on it. HOWEVER it is flattter then a pancake and cooked till it has the consistancy of shoe leather. IF you want overcooked, but big then go here. The fries are good. The staff is nice, there's plenty of room to sit and you don't have to wait for a table and the beers are cold but THAT is about it.

I have been to Chris Madrid's on many many many occasions......I just haven't been in about twenty years......because it's in a part of town that I don't go to very often. I have to ask myself if it's really that good when through twenty years of burger cravings....I never once decided it was worth the drive. I remember it being good.....kinda like Tycoon Flats.....only at a different location with a different name and no patio I think. Could it be that Chris Madrids has become a Legend in the burger world but is really just better than Whataburger.....but if they were way better they'd have 500 locations by now. Your thoughts?
