Description

A San Antonio institution, this authentic German deli in the heart of downtown has been serving business people and tourists alike since 1917. Known for its delicious deli fare of corned beef, chicken salad, reubens and braunschweiger sandwiches, this is an excellent place to stop in for lunch or dinner. Don't forget to wash your meal down with some of the special Schilo's root beer or top it off with the signature cherry cheesecake. A popular spot, the dining room fills quickly.

This is my go-to eatery if we are visiting the Riverwalk. Right above a Riverwalk entrance, and the prices are more reasonable than the touristy Riverwalk. You get a lot of food, and for a trip for 5 people, it was under $40. The schnitzel was good, and plentiful. The root beer-- to die for! I have never had bad service here, even when it was crowded. This is now on my husband's list as well when we come visit.

I had not problem there. Busy because of the veteran's day parade. Sad that two girls did theft of service when they left without paying. Price was comparable to other eatery.

Obviously none of you live in San Antonio, Shilo's is one of the best restraunts in san antonio, at first I was suprised thought it wasn't good but i was wrong. There Ham and chesse sandwich is delicious and so is the ruben!. To top it all of you get a hot potato salad and the root beer is great too. So it's worth the try and you'll love the envioronment in the restraunt

Excellent food at an excellent price. May not be a NY deli deli but NOT a Tourist Trap ripoff either. 3 entrees, 2 drinks for under $25. Great kielbasa, knockwaurst, potatoe pancakes and Saturday Special, Salisbury Steak

With having lived in Germany for four years, and having had great food from the german vendors during the food fest before I was excited about being in San Antonio again. I tried it and boy was I surprised. The only thing they have going for them is the history. Nothing about the place pleased me. With all of the great heritage in the area, why dont they cook their own meats. I can go to any grocery store and buy the same things.

We are from Austin with our son in a local hospital. I am picking up food to go for dinner. We have had several decent meals. Schilo's is not one of them. The Reuben's were just plain bad. The rye bread wasn't grilled. The meat was sparse and dry. The hamburger was no better. And the chips were stale. Only the root beer was very good. I had a Reuben several days before from a deli around the corner - the Market Deli and Grocery, I think. They do a Reuben right. I cannot recommend Schilo's. I know it's a San Antonio institution but that doesn't mean it has good food.

Great service, great food. We had the Tuxedo (I think) chicken salad, and the submarine. The salad was one of the best I have ever had. The price was very reasonable as well.
