Schilo's Delicatessen, San Antonio

My husband and I dine here every so often (I work downtown) and we really like it. I was excited to go today because their Thursday special is chicken and dumplings but we sat down and waited five minutes for wait staff that never came. After a couple of minutes I tried to flag down a server but he rushed past as I attempted to ask him who our server would be. I tried again to ask a female server about someone helping us and she too mostly brushed us off. Give me a break! I only get an hour for lunch and while five minutes doesn't seem like a long wait, please consider that the nearest parking lot is a multi-level lot next door. We walked out...

lousy food, lousy service.....find somewhere else to eat, do not eat at Schilo's

Don't go for dinner. The split pea soup is so thick that you could stand a spoon up in it. The jaeger schnitzel gravy is also WAY too thick and has absolutely no taste!!

We are from Austin with our son in a local hospital. I am picking up food to go for dinner. We have had several decent meals. Schilo's is not one of them. The Reuben's were just plain bad. The rye bread wasn't grilled. The meat was sparse and dry. The hamburger was no better. And the chips were stale. Only the root beer was very good. I had a Reuben several days before from a deli around the corner - the Market Deli and Grocery, I think. They do a Reuben right. I cannot recommend Schilo's. I know it's a San Antonio institution but that doesn't mean it has good food.

Everyone is very friendly, and the pea-soup is wonderful!

It's nice to know somethings never change. I hadn't eaten there in over 15 years and it was the same. Great food and great service.

There is nothing not to like about this place. Great food, excellant selection of cheeses, Fantastic breakfasts. Just a great place to eat if you are staying on the River Walk. Thank You for the great food.

Good food for a good price. Great Split Pea soup and homemade Root Beer. We've lived in San Antonio our entire lives and make it to Schilo's at least once every year. Great choice to take out of town guests. Why eat at the River Mall when a short walk down you can enjoy a piece of Texas history.
