Description

A San Antonio institution, this authentic German deli in the heart of downtown has been serving business people and tourists alike since 1917. Known for its delicious deli fare of corned beef, chicken salad, reubens and braunschweiger sandwiches, this is an excellent place to stop in for lunch or dinner. Don't forget to wash your meal down with some of the special Schilo's root beer or top it off with the signature cherry cheesecake. A popular spot, the dining room fills quickly.

Good food for a good price. Great Split Pea soup and homemade Root Beer. We've lived in San Antonio our entire lives and make it to Schilo's at least once every year. Great choice to take out of town guests. Why eat at the River Mall when a short walk down you can enjoy a piece of Texas history.

Excellent lunch. I visit San Antonio about once a year, and I always stop in for lunch at Schilo's. The reuben or the chicken salad is especially delicious. Great atmosphere, good mix of guests, great service.

Don't go for dinner. The split pea soup is so thick that you could stand a spoon up in it. The jaeger schnitzel gravy is also WAY too thick and has absolutely no taste!!

What a find! Went here on the recommendation of a friend and loved it. Went back every day I was in SA for lunch. I'd never had split pea soup, so the waitress brought me a cup to try on her. Delicious! The root beer is the best- brewed on premises!

River Parade Must!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/25/07
Schilo's was the perfect place to enjoy a late lunch prior to watching the river lighting parade. The pea soup was the best on this blustery day, accompanying the Ruben sandwich and a pitcher of Spaten. Just a block and over the river from the Hilton Palacio del Rio..we recommend it highly!

Authentic deli in historic San Antonio!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/18/07
My husband and I loved the atmosphere, the food, and the location. The crowd at lunch was business people and regulars mingled with the tourists, it was fantastic! I would not miss this restaurant!

An oldie but goodie

Been here for perhaps as long as the Alamo..just kidding. Food has always been excellent and its a SA tradition to have it here and take guests to it.
