I heard about this dive on the radio. It was supposedly, the talk of the town. Well it will be my talk for awhile. It was awful. That is a good word. I can not believe this place is open. It really sucks. I ordered the Chicken fried steak, a lot of breading, a small amount of meat resting in tablespoon of gravy. The fries were served on top of everything. It came with a salad, which was served on the same plate. Yes, you guessed it, the salad was hot. My wife orderd the grilled Talapia. It had a weird taste. She could not eat it. Her salad was served on the same plate also. They walked past us all night not once asking us if we would like a refill of tea. The tea actually did not taste bad. You can imagine the huge tip I gave them. Get out of this business. You ruin good food. The waitress service was terrible, and for her performance, she got nothing from me. I did not take home any of the leftovers. My garbage cans get full enough without taking that crap home.
Talk about bad. Let's count the ways. First, a bad part of town. Second the place was dirty. There was enough dirt around the airconditioner vent to plant a garden. Third the food was bad. Their famous Chicken Fried Steak comes out about the size of a basketball but it was 90% breading and the meat was smaller than a quarter pound burger. What a horrible experience!
The food is so deep fried you'll fall dead in the parking lot (of course, after you've paid the bill), the service from their saw-tooth, trailor-park waitresses is AWFUL; and if that isn't bad enough, the bathrooms are outside - OUT HOUSES!
This isn't a hole in the wall, IT'S A HOLE IN THE GROUND!
When you've been going to Tip Top for 45 years like I have......you don't care about reviews.
Some restaurants go far far beyond serving a meal.
Tip Top is a part of people's lives. It is reassurance in troubled times.
It is a pat on the back when you need it most.
It is love.
It is Mom.
Just walk in and give the place a hug.
Who are you to question Tip Top.
Tip Top has been around forever and there is a reason for it. It is best known for its chicken fried steak and onion rings, they are huge and great. As for the restaurant itself, it is quite small and often times very crowded but it is worth it as long as your not some kind of snooty city jerk. This place has been there forever and is famous with locals and that is the way I'm sure Tip Top would like it to stay.
Like both reviews with 2 stars, everything they say is true. They serve large portions of tasteless food. What was food network thinking? Yes, parking is bad, service is rude, and restrooms are very nasty and outside like waiting area. No credit cards, no outside checks, and only ATM is next door at a bank. If you want a good cafe experience, try the 410 Cafe.
