Indifferent Managment, Stingy drinks, Lazy Mariachis
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/15/10
Its sad to see one of my favorite restaurants drop so dramatically. In the 15 years I've been their customer, English has always been a challenge, but that's what gave Pico de Gallo its charm. It wasn't a riverwalk tourist trap. It was an authentic mex-mex (not tex-mex) place. This week I attempted to arrange a party of 20+ guests, and at the last minute was informed that a 'deposit' of $3 per guest would be required. OK, no big deal. But they weren't asking for a deposit to hold the reservation, they were asking for a surcharge of $3 per guest just for the privilege of showing up. This seemed very odd, so I asked for the general manager, Ramon, to call me. My call was not returned. I called the next day, and my call was not returned. Ditto the third day. Lacking all confidence, I did not hold the party, but did stop by the restaurant. Unlike in years gone by, the dining room was empty. I had a meal. It was OK, but far from the quality I've enjoyed in the past. I ordered a drink, and can safely say that it was one of the shortest, stingiest drinks I've ever had. When I ordered another shot, and asked that it be poured more fully, it was equally stingy. I switched to beer. I guess I was in denial, and went for dinner when I shouldn't have, and ordered a second drink when the first was short. As in the past, the mariachis were present, but now just standing around and playing nothing. It's sad to see this institution die of neglect and indifference. Edit - Delete
