Fig Tree Restaurant

Description

If you are looking for an upscale dining experience with classic cuisine and a decor to match, look no further. Nothing is taken for chance at this restaurant, which is located on the River Walk in a charming, restored old home in La Villita. The china, silver, table settings and general decor of Fig Tree Restaurant make it an experience in fine dining. The menu consists of entrees such as rack of lamb, Chateaubriand and beef Wellington. The Fig Tree also spares no expense on a very well-rounded wine list.

Don't waste your money. Even though we had reservation and restaurant was empty on a Saturday (should have been our first clue) the maitreā€˜d sat us in a horrible place telling us that they would be filling up. It was 8:15 and no dinner customers came in after us. He failed to give us menus which we waited for, for 15 minutes. We order a nice bottle of wine and were brought the incorrect vintage waited another 10 minutes then offer a substitute year by a friendly albeit inexperienced wine steward. Food was adequate but evening ruined our tab for two was over $400 and still service levels were barely one star from the host. Easy to see why this place was empty and our meal at Biga on the Banks on Friday was half the cost and twice the value. Owners better take a close look at operations here. Certainly would never consider for one of our groups or special occasion. What a shame a pretty little place that stakes its reputation on local ownership but no owners on site and when I called days later no one at two location would even say who owns the restaurant. Not sure what staff is hiding but certainly there isn't any pride in ownership when three different staff members can't give out the just the names of the owners. Maybe they don't know how the paid help is treatingthe guests and staff wants to keep it that way.

Great view from the patio, but the food was average and the service left a lot to be desired, especially considering the prices. I've eaten at much better restaurants in San Antonio. We won't be going back.

this place is the best place for fine dinning in san antonio unbelievable service and food...it was an outstanding night for my friends and i. there is no other place like it being in La Villita was San Antonio's first neighborhood. It was originally a settlement of primitive huts for the Spanish soldiers stationed at the Mission San Antonio Valero (the Alamo). After a flood in 1819, brick, stone and adobe houses replaced the earlier structures. In 1836, La Villita was the site of General Santa Ana's cannon line in the Battle of the Alamo and a map from early that year showed the village to be of considerable size. the fig tree is an outstanding place to dine its history and beauty what makes this place worth dinning....

This was our first time at the Fig and the ambiance and food were excellent. The Fig made Ruth Chris, Silo's and Flemings food and service seem dull. I would highly recommend the Lobster Bisque, Quail, Beef Wellington, and Chocolate Bombay. Each dish flowed smoothly and complimented each other fantastically. The service was suberb and the manager was very accomidating when we requested a table move due to excessive noise from a larger party. Even though it was chilly outside that placed a heater for our comfort and even offered cozy blankets to dine in. The wine and champagne selection were divine and we trully enjoyed ourselfs without breaking the bank. The portions were perfect for a night out on the town.
