Good food, artsy feel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/7/05
Sandwiches and breakfasts are quite good. The ambience is a little eclectic for some folks, probably appeals to the artsy people in the area more than it would the average joe.

Extremely poor service. We've lived in the King William district for about a year now and decided to walk over with our baby on a Sunday afternoon (in a stroller) since parking is often horrible (only 6 spots). The staff (and a few haughty customers) gave us dirty looks for bringing the baby and were not helpful in the least when we asked to sit down. After waiting 5 minutes with staff completely ignoring us we went across the street to Tito's where we received excellent service and food. Come on Mad Hatter's, do you really think you are that special because you serve overpriced tea and tuna sandwiches? I can make the same thing at home for about $1.50. Some competition in the soup/sandwich/salad market would be welcome in Southtown.

Went with a group and everything we ordered was excellent. I tasted everyones =) lol. I read comments of over pricing - But its almost downtown in the artsy district + its a TEA ROOM, hello? If you like great sandwhiches, FISH BOWL sized Mimosa's, and a Alice in Wonderland themed with Austin's type laid back atmosphere. You gotta check this place out. Wish it was closer to my house.

Madhatters is for the artistic type of personality. They have been in business for a while and are very popular. They offer a variety of food as well as hot teas and coffees. It is a very casual atmosphere and they also have a wonderful selection of desserts. If you go there be sure to have their migas plate. This is one of my favorite restaurants!

I just ordered a small veggie burger with no cheese, side of chips and fruit and it cost $15.00! It was such a small portion. I can't wait till the neighborhood gets some competition so that they will be forced to lower the ridiculous menu prices.

Great food, I especially like the sugarfree desserts, and the assortment of tea.

Chic Tea House
By pavid, 10/15/05
Great place to grab brunch or lunch. In the evenings they often times have a little entertainment. Plan your trip to Madhatters on the first friday of every month for a late lunch, then stroll on down to the Art Walk. All the local artists, jewelry makers, and musicians have a chance to show off their stuff from about 5pm - 1am. It all culminates at the Blue Star and a larger art gallery. Good times.
