Gristmill River Restaurant & Bar, New Braunfels

Yum! Go for lunch or dinner during the week and sit inside near the big fireplaces or outside overlooking the river. The bronze catfish is delicious and the beef tenderloin sandwich on the sourdough roll is so tender the beef will melt in your mouth. We like to wait until we get a coupon several times a year. This place is a tourist destination, not a tourist trap. Gruene is fun to walk around, just avoid the excessive weekend crowds.

We love this place! It's not somewhere we can afford to go all the time, but we go at least 3 or 4 times a year. Its not a lot more expensive than the chains but the food is MUCH better. Last night my husband got the ribs and I got the filet mignon with grilled shrimp and everything was melt in your mouth tender and flavorful, plus our waitress was very nice! If you go on a weekend though you can definitely expect to wait... to me that just speaks to how good of a restaurant it is though... always crowded!

me and my boyfriend had a wonderful time at gristmill on a saturday afternoon. the food was delicious! you gotta try the appetizer with the red jalapenos stuffed with cheese...everything we ordered (i had the baby back ribs special and my bf had the grilled chicken Caesar salad) was on point! if the weather is nice, you have to sit outside and enjoy the view of the river and the beautiful trees surrounding you. service was nice and i had a great experience. i would definitely come back! gruene is such a nice small town. make sure you stop by gruene hall, which is next door and check out some of the small businesses in the area.

An absolutely beautiful setting, but the food is disgusting it is just the same as everywhere else, same salads, same burgers same steaks and same salmon. I was very sick after eating the steak and mashed potatoes and my husbands salmon was not cooked all the way thru. It would have been nice to see some different items on the menu instead of the same old stuff you can get from chili's or appleby's. I don't expect high class full service menu but just something that would suit the environment more and a little more pride in what is being cooked - please note chefs the Food Network Channel has some awesome shows with wonderful recipes and hints and tips - also I think you need a dash of Gordon Ramsay. Please the setting is stunningly beautiful, make you menu and the food you serve well worth the trip out there.

We've never had less than an exceptional dining experience here. The decor, especially during the holiday season, is worth a visit, and the outside dining has great views of the river. The best tuna fillet I've ever had. THE place to take visitors.

Good food, great atmosphere. There is alot of outdoor seating that overlooks the river. It can get busy, and the wait can be long, but its worth it.

When visiting Gruene or New Braunfels you must try the Gristmill. Make plans to wait a while on a busy Friday or Saturday night though. Do not order an appetizer while waiting in the bar/patio area the waitresses are very rude when you do that! Our spinach dip came out cold and when we mentioned it to the waiter she said we needed to stir it up since it just came out of the microwave!! She was not kidding! Other than that the food is good, the waiters at the tables are friendly and the atmosphere is awesome.

While the setting is beautiful, it's dirty and hot. The hostess acted like she was doing us a favor by seating us. The food was below par for what they charge. The service was awful- the server didn't put in my entree, forgot to order the appetizer, had to beg for drinks then charged us $5.50 for a kids meal, plus another $2 for a kids drink...usualy kids meals are $4.00 with a drink. When I went to the bottom deck to look-out, I saw it was mostly a party atomosphere for the server, so that's why we were getting little attention. There are a lot better places around for food, but you can't beat the setting.

A great place if you like good food and the outdoor dining experience. The patio view of the Guadalupe River is lovely and if you are looking for a romantic spot, a late night dinner is just the thing. I love it!
