well, lvhs seems to make it a habit degrading eating establishments,i have gone to the fried pie company on numerous occasions and find it quite charming, food is excellent, fried pies are to die for!!!,maybe you should give it another chance next time your in town, that way if you have a problem, you can address it directly instead of bashing them on the internet.that place hrs been there for approx.30 years, must be doin something right.lan
Heard this place had good pies so we decided to eat lunch and get some pies for dessert. Stood at front of restaurant for about 5 minutes waiting for someone to seat us. Finally someone walked by and very rudely said sit where ever you want. Waitresses acted like we were bothering them by wanting service and interupting their conversation. Got menu that boldly says that their food is not cooked until ordered and therefore might take longer to cook. We ordered the chicken fry special, within 2 or 3 minutes, here comes our cooked to order chicken fry that looks like something I would get in a TV dinner, nothing special about this lunch special. It was edible but nothing to write home about. Went to register to pay and get a couple of fried pies to go. They didn't seem to treat the other customers any nicer than they treated us. The pies were pretty good, but not worth the attitude and poor service you get at this place. They should change the name to The Rude Fried Pie Co. at least then new customers would know what they are in for.
We tried the fried pies there after seeing the billboard on a trip to Oklahoma. YUMMY! We recommended them to a friend traveling the same direction. They too loved them. They bought several dozen, froze them and took them to share with family in West Virginia. We try to coordinate our travel times to stop in as often as possible. Their sugar free pies are also excellent.
Ever since I had a fried pie in Oklahoma I had been wanting to find a place in Texas. So happens we were going thru Gainesville and saw a sign. We found the Fried Pie Restaurant. We weren't happy with the loud talking and laughing coming from what looked like locals gathered together. They kept on staring at us while talking. I guess only the locals are allowed to eat here. The waitress wasn't very friendly and treated us as if she wished we hadn't come in. The food we ordered wasn't that good. The hambergers were very greasy and the frys were barely warm. Our main thing though was to order some fried pies. The pies were just ok, not very light crust wise, kind of doughy. The looks from the staff and locals will keep us from coming back here!
We live in Gainesville, we have tried this restaurant on three different ocassions. The first time the people were really rude and the place was full of locals cracking jokes about other people. The food was cold and my husband said his burger tasted like they had run it over with a road machine. The second time the food was worse. Our table was disgusting and the silverware was dirty. This last time, we didn't even get to the food...we got up and left. We had a friend with us with a disability (Downs Syndrome) and the locals and the waitress were cracking jokes about him to the point where he cried. We will never ever eat there or recommend this place again.
Whenever we're headed towards Gainesville, we look forward to stopping at the Fried Pie Restaurant. The waitresses are friendly, we love the atmosphere; and of course....the to-die-for fried pies. The only disappointment we have experienced is when we arrive too late and they are sold out! You gotta try them.
