Ate there today and I must say the food is bland. The rolls weren't "special" as I expected. There wasn't enough wait staff and everything took quite awhile. I really don't see what the praises are about.

Our first time today and our last. After suffering through long lines in and out, bland food, mashed potatoes from I'm not sure where, navy beans without taste, fish without taste, rolls, I think, hard and no taste, cornbread I'm not sure when it was cooked, but certainly not recently, and tea that tasted like dirt. Most were elderly patrons, but we were all served in blue, deep welled section plates like the ones you might see in a nursing home. I believe that is where they must have recruited their cooks.

I stopped in for lunch based upon a review which rated the apple pie as 'best in Fort Worth' and I wasn't disappointed. The CFS with pinto beans and greens on the side were also excellent. The service was lightning fast. This was my first visit and I will be back to sample the catfish. -)

While surrounded by what looked like a field trip day at the local nursing home, we were served bland mashed potatoes, unseasoned catfish/chicken breast with cauliflower in a runny white sauce (called creamed) in blue sectioned plates that resembled elementary school cafeteria dinner wear. My companions were not much impressed either. The pie we shared (chocolate coconut) came close to what you might find at a local Wal-Mart (not quite) store. Sign on the door said "Zagat Rated". Not sure if the Zagat raters were on a heavy dose of antihistamines when this place was rated?? – The people were super nice!

You will really like this place if you feel good patronizing a business whose owner remarked to a customer who was waiting in line to be seated that people would love our beloved country's President Obama if they liked living under Communist Rule. Isn't that sweet.

We stopped in for breakfast. Got a little of everything. The biscuits are great and the gravy only added to the joy. Corned beef hash is made on site. The pork chop was huge - don't know how someone as two plus eggs for breakfast. The hash browns are really home fries and were a throwback to the way grandma made them. Our coffee cup was always full and the OJ was tasty. Plus, the bill for two with all that food was less than $20.

Stopped for breakfast on our way from Coventry, Connecticut to San Antonio and found the food, service, and atmosphere to be just great! We used to live in Arlington in the late 1980's/early 1990's and frequented the restaurant then. It is just as nice as we had remembered! Keep up the good work!

A friend and I had lunch there today. The service was fast and he chicken and dumplings were awesome. I thought my great-grandmother was in the kitchen cooking.

Classic, venerable blue plate special diner. The chicken fried pork loin on Monday is heavenly good. From scratch mashed potatoes and the ubiquitous chicken fried steak are always available. A plethora of veggie choices are available daily. Also serves a blisteringly good cheese burger and fresh cut fries and rings. Service is "Hi, honey" friendly. Mike the owner is on constant patrol.

I went with high expectations after reading the reviews on this site. However, the food was dry and I was disappointed. This was certainly nothing to write home about. However, the pie meringue was wonderfully light and fluffy, a delight to eat. I'm glad I went for the pie. All in all, the lunch at this busy lunch cafe with bare walls and no ambience was a bit disappointing, but my sweet tooth was satisfied. I would not go back.
