Fred's Texas Cafe
With a rowdy roadhouse atmosphere and gaudy diner furnishings, this funky, 50-year-old eatery is perfect for families and fun-loving folks in general. Certain nights of the week, Fred's Cafe features special themes, while weekend nights are reserved for live music and patio dancing. Authentic, mile-high hamburgers are the cafe's claim to fame. Wednesday nights are invent-a-pizza nights, while Friday nights are hot and spicy, with Tex-Mex entrees on special. Diners are also encouraged to suggest new entree combinations, which may even earn a permanent spot on the menu.
My Coworkers and I are trying all the locations listed in the BEST OF FORT WORTH WEEKLY so today we tried FREDS new location in North Fort Worth 2730 Western Center Blvd. I had a $17.00 Bacon Bleu Cheese that wasn't worth $5, better food found just down the road at TED E'S. My coworker got the $9 cheesburger and threw it away as the meat tasted sour. I WILL NEVER VISIT THIS PLACE AGAIN! Sad too as the original location on CURRIE STREET was better if memoy serves correctly. SAD SAD SAD DAY!! STAY AWAY!
Absolutely fantastic burger, and good service....if you're not there on too busy a night.
For those of you who wrote negative reviews...a few things you have to understand:
Freds is an old old diner that has gotten really popular -- especially after being featured on Diners, Drive ins, and Dives.
It does'nt matter how many waiters you have, how many tables you have, there is only so much food you can process through a tiny little kitchen. The regulars understand this, and we love the place as-is, so we make allowances for it. It's one of those places. It's what kincaides used to be back in the good old days. Kincaides is good, but Freds beats their burger hands down.
So if you want fast service, don't go there on a Friday or Saturday night, or when live music is happening. If I do go there on a busy night, I make allowances...I expect a wait for a table, and for food.
If you are the kind who gets snotty with the waiters, don't go there at all. They don't need or want you there.
The burgers were just ok, the atmosphere was alright, however the demeaning and lousy management outweighed anything good about this place. I strongly recommend Kincaid's, Whataburger or Mom's Cafe in Justin head over heals above here.
