Catfish Sam's is known for the best catfish. This restaurant is run by the Lester family, who have won several 'Texas Restaurant Association' blue ribbons. Juicy, fork-tender catfish is prepared in the famous southern style with cornmeal breading. Other entrees include chicken-fried steak, shrimp, clam strips, chicken strips and fried pickles (a Southern delicacy). The true Texas food experience is enhanced by side dishes such as pinto beans, coleslaw, homemade yeast rolls and hush puppies. Moreover, the restaurant's casual ambiance is complimented well by metal tables covered with maroon tablecloths.
I had been taking my family there 5 years.
One day, they ran my family out, specifically my wife. We had paid and were on our way out the door. She had ordered an all you can eat plate and had not cleaned the plate to thier expectations. They made it clear they had been watching her; the owner made a scene of it. I was almost arrested for trying to find out what he was making a scene over.
I don't go there anymore.
The hushpuppies were not hot....the catfish was overcooked and the batter was dark....they overcooked it to the point the meat inside the fist was mostly missing....I have been going to this place for years but this is the first time in more than a couple of months....it now will be the last time. Something was wrong. The slaw was good...the beans had too much liquid....the waitress was good.
The (set ups) cost significantly extra and should not. Service was not good on the night we went. Our waiter asked for my order, but brought the wrong thing instead. It was crowded and that usually means good to great food, but our experience was a bit disappointing. The fish was nothing special that would make me return anytime soon. Maybe we hit on a bad night, but we won't be back, so that should open up seating.
Catfish Sam's has the best farm raised catfish I've ever eaten, and the beans, and hushpuppies, and coleslaw setups are fantastic.... BUT .... The service has been awful lately! There were several ladies that worked there for many years who catered to your every wish before you even asked for it, and it couldn't have been better. But, now the waitresses can't ever get the orders right, it's next to impossible to get a refill of tea, or another beer, and they wont even bring the check when you want to leave!!! In short: GREAT food! LOUSY service! I've been eating there regularly as long as I've lived in Arlington, but I don't go back very often anymore, and I'd only recommend it with qualifications.
My wife and I ate dinner there last night. Our food was excellent and you couldn't ask for better service that we got from our server named Miguel. We never had to ask for anything because he was on top of it.We couldn't be any happier with our visit there.
