Famous for their picante hot sauce, this restaurant serves award-winning Mexican cuisine including enchiladas, sopapillas, and tortilla soup. Delicious margaritas are also available. They are open daily for lunch and dinner.
My friend and I ate at El Fenix yesterday, 8-16-10, a place we had visited many times in the past. We were served the 2 worst salads in history. We both had the salad which was supposed to have grilled red onions. No grilled onions and when we asked for them, we got cold sliced white onions on a plate! The chicken was completely tasteless and even the so-called dressing had no taste at all. For this tasteless salad and a glass of tea, we each paid $11.97 plus a tip. No more - that's our last time there. This place has been going down hill for a long time now.
I took some guests from overseas to El Fenix in Arlington expection a good Tex-Mex meal, We ordered the El Fenix plate to get a variety. I was like eating a microwaved frozen dinner. In a tempt to get something we could eat, we ordered fajitas. They come to the table cold. I was very embarassed. The quality is nothing like it used to be. This is my last time at El Fenix.
We have eaten there for years, but lately it has gone down hill. The last time we ate there ( and I do mean the LAST time) we weren't given hot sauce with our chips. Waitress said they were making a fresh batch. 15 minutes later, still no hot sauce, though I had seen other diners receiving it. I asked again for it, and waitress said they were out of the little hot sauce cups, but she would go wash a few. WTF? We did finally receive hot sauce, When our meal arrived, it was not hot. They usually warn you about the hot plates when your food arrives. This wasn't necessary because these plates could easily be handled with a bare hand. I'm really disappointed to see the decline in this restaurant.
Best chips and salsa in the world! Wednesdays are enchilada dinners for five bucks and they are packed, so go early. The margaritas are always good and you can actually taste the tequila. Sour cream chicken enchiladas are my favorite. The service is always good and I feel welcome there.
I like el fenix. Their chicken tacos, and different fajita plates are great! The food is a little pricy in comparison to the competition. I have stopped going because I was tired of paying $2-3 more per plate than what the competition charges. I think they need to offer some specials. It is hard to eat there for less than $10-$11 even if you order a basic taco plate at lunchtime. HELLO? I can get a lunch taco plate with drink for $7.50 at other places. Try asking for an alacart chicken taco. They will charge you more than $3 for 1 small taco. El fenix seems to raise there prices every time I come in. They are an established mexican restaurant. I guess they can do this. They seem to believe they will meet their bottom line by raising prices instead of offering specials. I think there business model is flawed. These are my new friends: El arroyo, chachas, ninas grand prairie, little mexico grand priairie.
The day my husband and I went, it was extremely busy but we were able to be seated immediately. The waiters were busy and we weren't tended to as we would have liked, but like I said, it was packed. The food is excellent, I can't wait to go back.
