and lousy service, then this is the place to go. The brisket is greasy & mostly fat. The turkey is rubbery. The fries are overcooked, cold and soggy. You have to practically beg the staff for pickles, onions or jalapenos and they'll give you a tiny cup containing 2-3 anemic pickle slices from an uncovered tray on the counter while flies swarm around them. In the dining area, you can expect to find sticky, unwashed tables, communal condiments and more bugs.
And no, this isn't just one bad experience, I've given them several tries thinking maybe they were having off days. The tourists seem to love the place though.. of course they don't hear the things said about them behind their backs.
great food. my favorite bbq sause (go there if you like a sweet sause). favorite pork ribs too, very lean and not fatty. potato salad is great. highly recommend the chopped brisket sandwich and the rib plate. go early because they are crowded at lunch, and they close early, before 7 i think. not a fancy atmosphere, plain seating, and you stand in line to order. just go for the great food and prices.
I have been a chef and in the food industry for over 13 years, from short order cook to cooking at the Mansion on Turtle Creek to being a Private Chef at the moment. I have to say this is the finest example and best flavored BBQ I have ever found in Texas
Yeah their pickles are covered and its January so I am not sure about flies swarming in Jefferson this time of year? And I am glad they do not have them on the bar anymore that way I know all the customers grubby hands are not in them. Seems a lot more sanitary to me? The service is great. The workers are always smiling and happy. They'll help you figure out what you want if youre not sure. I LOVE the chopped beef with homecut fries. And when its cold a grilled cheese and chili!! Definately try the sweet tea.FREE REFILLSI live in Jefferson and eat there atlease twice a week. And its CHEAP for a lunch or dinner. And where else can you eat and get out in 30 minutes. Also they have the new value meals where you can get it all in one...well there not really new but anyway. oH YEAH... and the best bbq sauce ever!

Being the tourist town that it is, Riverport is conviently located amidst the antique shops. The atmosphere is fairly plain while giving feelings of yeasteryear. Ribs are fantastic, as well as chopped beef. Sides are good too. Be ready to get messy, because you are going to want to dive in with both hands.
