I visited Auntie Skinner’s Riverboat Club twice in one day. The first time was for breakfast with my boyfriend. The food was great and the service was excellent I had blueberry pancakes and eggs and my boyfriend ordered the ham steak breakfast. We enjoyed every minute of it. We were invited back for the evening to watch the band.
Later that evening we returned with two friends. It was amazing how quickly our opinion of Auntie Skinner’s Riverboat Club changed. We found our seat and sat down. My bf was standing and watching the game on the big screen by the bar – little did our waitress know. The first things that came out of her mouth was “sh!t” and continued to roll her eyes and come over. (My bf heard this; we didn’t find out until later) She asked “What do you want?” My boyfriend replied, “Menus?” Which she replied, “We are only serving appetizers.” “Okay, can we see what you have?” She returned with menus and basically tossed them at each of us and walked off. She DID return and asked, “What do you want?” We ordered and eventually continued walking to the bar to order our drinks, because she never returned until she brought our food. When we asked for the receipt she retuned and shouted to each of us our bill while pointing with her pen. When we asked for receipt we were denied. The chicken wings and hamburger were awful and frozen burn and the nachos were stale and cold. It was too bad because we left a lot quicker than planned in order not to have to deal with her anymore. The band was great and we would have liked to stay to enjoy it. But, we didn’t feel welcome at all.
We plan on visiting Jefferson again. Everyone in the town was extremely nice and accommodating. However, we WILL NOT return to Auntie Skinner’s, even it is the only Tavern in Jefferson. We will drink the complementary wine at our bed and breakfast!
this is The place to go in jefferson. this is where the locals go to have a burger or down a drink. friday is usually kareoke, and saturday nights can get rowdy if there's a good band. the food is good, and they have a little of everything. famous for their hot sause (a sweet hot sause), burgers are good, chicken nachos are good. atmosphere is the best, weekdays are usually quiet in jefferson though.
This place is great! The food is incredible. Great atmosphere! Perfect ole time charm of a bar. and its right next to the courthouse! So when you have jury duty or court its a great place to go during lunch. And its in the middle of downtown so there is plenty of shopping within feet.
