Sonny Bryan's Smokehouse BBQ

Description

In 1910 Elias Bryan moved his family to Dallas from Cincinnati and opened the first Bryan 's Barbecue. His son, William Jennings Bryan, (known as Red for his hair) opened his own restaurant in Oak Cliff, Texas in 1935. Working with his Dad was William Jennings Bryan Jr., who was known as "Sonny". Sonny left Red in 1958 and opened his own restaurant on February 13th, the same day his Daddy and Granddaddy opened their restaurants. Since that time the legend has spread nationwide, in fact worldwide! Sonny's reputation for friendly service and melt-in-your-mouth barbecue has fed U.S. Presidents, famous entertainers, sports legends, and other famous patrons. Sonny Bryan's has been featured in all types of publications including television, books, magazines, newspapers and more.

Unique experience, very good food! I am a Carolina BBQ fan, but really enjoyed this a-typical SW style sauce.

this place sucks. it was the worst bbq place i've been to. the sauce is thin and runny with a strong vinegar taste. the meat was tough and lacked the true texas flavour of mesquite and hickory.on a scale of 1-10 i give it a 2

I can't believe the review I just read. This is the best barbaque I have ever had at a restaurant. There has only been one disappointment in all of the times I have eaten here and it was at a Sonny Bryan's I had never been to, and I have been to almost all of them. Excellent barbaque.

My gosh this is to die for. My whole family (and it's huge) just loves how large the portions are. The staff is actually quite funny and we all enjoy a good laugh coming here.

Like Father, Like Son - Sonny Bryan's BBQ
By snareisbroken, 11/6/05
Sonny Bryan's Smokehouse is one of Dallas' oldest family-owned BBQ restaurants and has been serving great meals since 1910. Great food preparation runs in the Bryan family; Sonny learned all his cooking techniques from his dad, the great Bill Red Bryan. The original site still located at 2202 Inwood Road, complete with awnings for outdoor dining. Don't let the small shack appearance fool you, inside there is fantastic food at a reasonable price, served up in large portions. And there are 6 other Dallas locations from which to choose, just check the Dallas phone book or the Internet. The flavor of this BBQ is hard to beat when it comes to that old-time taste and backyard fun. Sure, there are ribs, chicken, brisket, and sausage, but the key is the slow smoking of the meats. This cafeteria-style food is served hot, juicy, and with plenty of sauce! And don't forget to order the sweet corn-on-the-cob, fresh potato salad, and the spicy baked beans. Sandwich plate and three-meat dinner plates are served with two sides and prices start at a reasonable $5.99. Top it off with iced tea, soda, or a cold beer, and the meal is complete. This a great place for casual, company functions in a relaxed family-style atmosphere.
