I am from the East Coast, home of FRESH seafood, Virginia Beach!!! The food that Pappadeaux brags about is not that great and over priced. I guess I am spoiled being from the East, but the cost of me and my boyfriend on our first date was so over rated. I told him that we could have taken another couple and all four had a drink and still come out cheaper at the all you can eat place back home. It is not that great, but if I want something seafood, I will grab a lunch.
I've had real cajun food, and Pappadeaux is one of the next best things. I also happen to work for the company. It has its ups and downs like any other job. It could be better, thats why I gave it 3 stars. However, the food is probably a 4 point something. And I would say the service is, too. Yeah, it's pricey, but most of the time the experience is worth it.
I cant understand the misconception of this food being anything close to real creole food from New orleans, being that I am aproud New Orleanian I could out-cook the chef's at Pappadeauxs on my worst day, people raved about this place and told me how much I would love it being from New Orleans, but I too found Razoos to be a much better knock off...Dont self yourself short this is not real creole (cajun) cuisine!!
After Pappaadeaux gets its B-grade seafood and then smothers it in Robert Orr Sysco oils and who-knows-what, it can barely be called seafood. It's a comical as comparing Tex-Mex to REAL Mexican food. It made me laugh to see Dallas listed as a city with seafood options on the same page as San Francisco and Boston. Pappa's is about as gourmet as Captain D's.
Please folks...this is a chain restauraunt trying to sell itself as authentic Cajun. It is average food with spice added to it to make it Cajun. It's not bad food, but if you have never had authentic Cajun cooking from Louisiana, then you have nothing to compare to. It's OK food with good service and value. I've had worse, but please don't give this place high marks. It's like giving Taco Bell five stars if that's your only experience with mexican food!!
I've eaten at Pappadeaux a number of times and it's good quality Cajun seafood, there's no doubt about that but, Pappadeaux is just a small part of the Pappa's empire. They have Pappasito's (Mexican), Pappas Bros. BBQ, Pappas Bros. Steakhouse and maybe more. They used to have Pappamia (Italian), but they closed. All of the Pappa's places make good quality food, but for the most part, they are way overpriced. As far as Pappadeaux goes, there are better Cajun places and I wouldn't even put them in my top 5 when it comes to seafood.
